;; Southern Caillornla·Arlzona-Southern Nevada· Southern Cailfornla·Arizona·Southern Nevada· Southern Call1ornla·Arlzona.1 I: Western hotline ~ motos and looking as fresh as he did when he started at the end of each moto , 14 laps in the grueling 100· heat. The Open Pros started things off, and in the first moto, K .C.'s Don Draskovich grabbed the holeshot , Pete Snorteland and Mark White set chase, all three aboard 465 YZS. Draskovich held steady as Snorteland pressed time and time again, and as the moto wore on, so did Snorteland. Right up until the checkers. Draskovich had to fend off DG's powerful Pete , and O'Neal's White for the win . Kenny Zahrt , riding for Dirt Bike Magazine, came from dead last off the line and took fourth ahead of Rob Rollins. Moto two was a scorcher, as the heat climbed and the track roughened . Snorteland took off into the lea d as Draskovich crashed. Zahrt got off to a better start thi s tim e and set after Snort eland , with White in tow . At the halfwa y mark Zahrt began to pressure Snorteland , but it was to no avail. Then . Zahrt began to wear Snorteland out, a feat Pet e cou ld n't accomplish with Draskovich, and finally , in the last few laps, Zahrt went right on by the tir ed Snorteland into the lead , and pulled awa y to win . Snorteland held on to second and took the overall win as White took third and th e sa me overall behind Zahrt. Draskovich barely too k fifth , right before pass ing out five feet past the ch eckered flag. Snorteland cam e back to lead the entire first moto of t he 250s , almost. The DG pilot was in the lead at the start of every lap . but one turn from the finis h of the first moto, Kris Bigelow, who had worked past the pack after a bad start , stuffed his Yamaha udnerneath Snorteland and won by inches as Snorteland rode across in total surprise. Round two was like the same story for Snorteland, he led a long ways before Bigelow came from mid pack to charge right into the lead with a smoth , almost effortless style in the rough. As O'Mara made his spectacular comeback, pulling out unreal leads for a gu y who hasn't raced in over two months, DG 's Chris Heisser was trying to put something together , to charge up from second. Also on a water-cooled Honda , Heisser was running a strong second the first moto when suddenly his bike quit on him halfway through the race. He jumped off and got things sorted out , then repassed three riders to regain second by the finish . In round two, O'Mara again holeshot and ran away, but Heisser got off in second , and stayed there the entire time , at times reeling in O'Mara to within seven seconds , but fading back as the heat wore him down . I; o 00 0') ..... John O'Mara (1011returned to action and blasted CRC's 125cc Pro class, Vatland prevails atOCIRMX By Tom Corley IRVINE, CA,JUNE5 It was a wild night out at OCIR. Night motocross tracks are not known too be as rough as daytime ones. Yet there seems to be a few good spills every week. The 250cc Beginner class was where it all happened this evening and what started off as being a fantastic race for Phil Harp turned out as being a total loss. Harp took his Yamaha out in the first moto and totally destroyed the class. Harp led every lap and there was little doubt as to who the fastest racer was . Harry Vatland trailed Harp but could not find his wa y around him. Bad luck came in the second moto. By now Harp was confident that he was going to win overall because he knew that he was the fastest . Then while flying over the main jump, Harp took a mean tumble that he will never for . get. After this the riders pulled off the track and they restarted the race Vatland had it made and he controlled the lead and stayed there the whole race while Frank Stoff and Dan Evinger trailed . Overall the 250cc Beginner class was won by Harry Vatland, followerl by Stoff, Evinger and Ken Lindemann. Dave Patton had to do a lot of fighting but he managed the overall win in the first division of 125cc Beginners. In the ' first moto his battle came from Steve Egger who led for three laps until Patton got by. Patton nearly lost the second rnoto to Steve Seminger who got out ahead and led for practically the entire race. It wasn't until the 12th lap that Patton finally made his move and advanced into the first place spot for the overall win . Finishing behind Patton on the results were Seminger, Karl Sellenthin and Egger. • R esults lY:~1 50: 1. Roy S_inger . MINI 36 IS~NI ISuzl; 2. Scon Hughey so: 1.
