Rodriquez, Lewis land CRC Mini• cross wIns By Nanette Marie ~~ National Championship b~ JULY 5,1980 ~<:'~!!IIIII ~t ~ Id I9ID VALENCIA, CA , MAY 9 T he California Racing Clu b opened up its $10, 000 T ri-Valley Suzuki Dealers' Summer Night Motocross Series Frid ay night on th e Mini track at Indian Du nes, where riders competed for not only the usual 30% tro phies awarded by the clu b, bu t $10 gift certificates to all class winners with three or more riders entered in that parti cula r class . Also given to every rider signed up was a raffle ticke t, which will be held until the end of the series when a brand new Suzuki RM80 will be raffled off, compliments of the Tri-Valley Suzuki dealers. More gift certificates were raffled off in the middle of the evening's program as well, giving all entrants a chance to go home with some pretty good prizes. Starting off the evening's racing at the Mini track were the Pee Wees, in which the brotherI sister team of Ronnie and Paula Densford took hom e wins in the Pee Wee Stock and Modified classes. Ronnie won both of the Modified motos for his overall, but Paula had to battle with Bradley George early in both of her motos before ul timately grabbing the two rnoto wins when George's J R50 developed mechanical problems while he was leading the races . The two speedsters of the evening were Junior Cycle Expert Johnnie Rod rigu ez and J unior Cycle Intermediate Kyle Lewis, who went head to head in the Stock class . Rod rigu ez proved why he was the Expert of th e field and ran away with bo th motos, as Lewis handily roosted off with the Intermediate overall , via two moto victories. In the Novice port ion of the J unior Cycle Stock racing , Bubba Erickson pulled down a pair of moto victories a nd the overall. while Mike Smith, Roby Hayes and Ronnie Densford battled for second through fourth .
