JOIN TEAM SUPER SEER! lS I I§' * :: ~ breathing spa ce at th e start. Ed Minton (Yam) was first around the scene of the wreck followed by Beau Magley (Yam) and Dana Waxham (Suz). Waxham got past Magley on the next lap and Minton's bike seized , so Waxham was in the clear to catch the leaders and ca tch them he did. Waxham took first . Cervantes second and Walkingstick third. Cervantes again had th e holeshot in the second moto with Gayland Norton (Suz) second around tum one and in front of th e crash that delayed most of the others th is time out also . Waxham was up into striking d istance by the t hird lap but Norton fell and took Waxham down with him. Da vid Wetherbee (Hon) moved up int o position to pass Cervantes for the win. Chris Trapp (Suz) was third . Wood came around first in moto one of the 250cc Pros with Danny "Magoo" Chandler (Mai) and Berluti next. Wood pulled a small lead that became large when "Magoo" fell in a tum and Berluti had to lock up his brakes behind. Berluti was soon awa y again, but Chandler lost many positions and the bike he was riding no longer seemed to be working as it should. McKenna came around third for th e checkered flag. Bill O'Donnell (Hon) had the lead off the start of moto two but overshot the berm on the tum and Berluti got around it first . The moto developed int o a contest between Wood and " Magoo" who was riding a different bike this time tha t worked much better. Wood hung onto first but "Magoo" ca me across second, McKenna agai n third . Tom Sweeney (Yam) was first th rough the turns in mota one of Open Novice Division I and hung around up front to finish second behind Bert W ilson (Suz) who had to pass a lot of other guys to ge t t here first. The second time out Wilson d id not have to struggle up from behind, but took the holeshot and used his obvious speed and control to develop an impressive lead before the moto was even half over , Mark Caldwell (Yam) was second overall with two third- place finishes. Sweeney wrapped up third overall. Division II was another story. Howard Gordon (Suz) came down the starting chute looking to holeshot but was na iled in the side by another rider and Harry Bradwell (Mai) came out the official leader . a position he held across the fin ish line as well. The crowd couldn't help keeping an eye on Corey Parsons (Yam) who exhibited impressive speed but not enough control in the comers. Parsons was the moto two leader from the start to the middle of the final lap , pulling out long leads in the straights which he lost by repeatedly overshooting the comers. On the final lap, he even lost first place. Tony Gatt (H us) came in for first -and claimed the overall win as well. In rnoto one of the 250cc Novice Division I. Scott Castaneda (Yam ) was in front coming down the chute but overshot the tum and Ron Rudi (Suz) , Scott Staouffer (Suz) and Vern Booth (Hon) got around first instead. Castaneda soon passed them back . however. and appeared the certain winner only nothing is certain in motocross. Casta ned a fell in the final tum and destroyed his throttle . Unaware that it was the final lap, Castaneda did not salvage his ride by pushing across the finish but DNF instead . In the second moto, it again was Castaneda out in front , this time for the whole beautiful ride. Booth was behind and took home the first overall brass for his efforts. MAY 2 Dave Faria ran away with the Open Expert main event at the Sand Hill Ranch Friday night scrambles. Faria, no stranger to winning this class , moved out into the lead in the early going and left the battling for second place. Joey Schlag held onto that position for most of the race until the hard- charging Jerry Brandt got past on lap 10 to capture the runner-up spot. Schlag crossed the finish line third with Craig Christian fourth . Tony Flores was again the star of the Mini class . picking up the top tr ophy. Junior Steve DeLay m ade a run for it . but fell short, settling for second. Johnny Ward followed the pair to the finish as the second-place Novice. Don Wilson took first in the Open Novice division, leading from the first tum to the checkered. David Moore came from back in the pack to take second. his best finish ever. Herbie Simon rounded out the top three followed by Chris Riddle. James Casey pressured Derek Keck for the 250cc Novice win. but when it was over. Keck held the lead for top honors. Mike Chauncey, winner of the heat race. lost it at the end of the back " straigh t but recovered to take third. J im Hartbauer continued his domi nance of the Vets class, despite the . fierce competition from Duane Spence and Bill Calicura. Spence got off to a poor start and finished fourth with Calicura falling on the second lap, fracturing his wrist. Mike Crosby followed Hartbauer to the finish line with the Novice honors .
