'. dian Dunes to race the California Raeing Club's regular Sunday motocross . The three Pros who walked away with the biggest part of the cash were Mugen's Johnny O'Mara, who made a shambles of the 125cc Pro class on his water-cooled, ultra-trick Mugenpowered machine; Donnie "Holeshot" Hansen , who took his water-cooled factory Honda to a double-moto sweep of the 250cc Pro class, the biggest class of the day ; and Yamaha Motor Corpo ration support rider T im Locey , who ran off with both motos in the Open Pro action. The first race off the line were the 250cc Pros , and in their first moto, Hansen grabbed the holeshot, and that was the end of the race right there. Nobody even came close to passing the trick American Honda machine, and Hansen went wire to wire for the win. Pete Snorteland and Bill Ouellette started out the race in the top five, and before the halfway point had worked themselves into the 2-3 spots . The duo traded passes every lap, but the checkers caught Ouellette just short of Snorteland , who came in second. Tim Locey viewed the battle from fourth, where he finished, but Jeff Jennings had to fight off a hard-charging Kolbe Can-Am of now -privateer ''Jammin ' Jimmy" Weinert, who suffered a bad start and spent the rnoto passing his way back from outside the top '15 to the top five. Weinert's time ran out, however, and Jennings took the fifth slot ahead of the Jammer. Moto two was a bit more exciting at the start, as Hansen took another of his holeshots, but International Ya maha's Mike Shoemaker was right behind him . T he two rode the first lap nip and tuck, then on the second circui t, Shoemaker slipped inside of Hansen in the sandwash and captured the lead. Hansen pressured righ t back, and re passed back for the lead. Still on Hansen 's rear fender, Shoemaker followed Hansen int o the sandwash , where they began to lap ride rs. Ha nsen slipped through them with no problem, but Shoemaker wasn 't so lucky, and made contact with one of the la pped rid ers, sending him down ha rd and injuring his elbow. After getting up' and trying to continue, Shoemaker had to call it qu its and hea d ed back for th e pits . This put Locey into second , followed by Jennings and T racy .Oswell : This was th e way the top four finished , and slipping in to the top five after another rotten sta rt was Weinert . Overall "the boards read Hansen . Locey, Jennings , Snorteland , who finished sixth in his second rnoto, Ou ellette, Oswell and Weiner t. . ,. Locey continued his fast pace in tlie Open class. In round on e Locey, Mark _ White and Pete Snorteland all had a hand on the lead at one time or an other , but Locey proved to be the ' fastest of the tr io as he slipped around both White and Snorteland towards the end of the moto. White made all kinds of trouble for Snorteland, but Pet e held on and a t the checkers cam e in second. Don Draskovich passed his way up to fourth by the end of the rnoto, and rounding out the top five was Mike Shoemaker, who suffered a bad start and couldn't find room to pass. Moto two was a runaway for Locey as he grabbed the holeshot and proceeded to pull out nearly a half-a-lap lead over another Snorteland/White battle. Again in this match Snorteland came out on top with White right behind a t the finish. Bob Schulz and Draskovich fought it out for fourth and fifth after Shoemaker pulled off due to his sore elbow from the crash he suffered in th e earlier 250cc second moto , and in this dice Schulz came out with the better of the two positions, as Draskovich , suffering from a sprained ankle he re injured in the first moto, couldn't mount any substantial charge and settled for fifth . Overall it went Locey, Sno rteland , Whi te and Draskovich , with Schult's first -mote seventh good enough to move him into the top five overall. O 'Mara won both 125cc Pro motos, with his biggest challenge coming from Bobby Kline (Kal-Gard Hon) , who put in a 3-2 ride for second. A.J . Whiting (Yam) was th ird. Results 250 PRO: 1. Lewis, Johns sock-it-to-'em at Old Timers MX By Bob Alloy SUNNYMEAD, CA, APR. 20 It's been almost five months since the Old Timers have raced here at DeAnza , and it was great to be here again. This is a very . challenging track because of all the ups a nd downs, the wide berm and of course the nice banzai downhill. Old Timers Master Ed Michetti runs the races and also competes with the Vets and the Old Timers. " Movin' Marv" Olson completel y owned the track with at least a quarter lap lead on everyone in the Masters division . Chuck Woody and Blackie Lewis were in hot pursuit of each other bu t on la p five it was Lewis who took .the second place position and held on to win second. Woody scored in with third place. There was a continued battle going on between Lewis and Woody in the second moto. Woody was right on Blackie's rear fender. just waiting to take over. However, the chance just didn't materialize and it was Blackie in first , Woody second and " Movin' Marv" third. Looking good in the Expert division was Dick Frampton. Dick held the lead for five laps before Ed Johns took over. Ed continued his lead to the checkered flag to claim first. Frampton was second and following Frampton was Lou Sorenson in third. After lap three, the second moto was all Sorenson' s. Johns scored a great second place win and following Johns was Frampton with t hird. Amateur George Separing had every· thing going for him as he nicely wra p ped up both first place in both motos. As usual Asker Lamkjaer is in there with a winning position and this moto was no exception as he took a second. Coming in third was Ron Clawson followed by Hal Grady. The second place scorer in moto two was Clawson. Taking third place was Grady. and following Grady was Larnkjaer. Novice Curt Wyatt took the lead in moto one and kept this up for the 10· lap win. Ray Montoya was in there for a well-deserved second place victory. It was Bob Alloy who lucked out with a third place win. Montoya really blasted his way through to claim first place in the second moto. Taking second place was Alloy and coming in third was Larry Escamilla. Results MASTERS: 1. Blackie Lewis !Yam) ; 2.
