Important date change: The 1980 Superbowl of Motocross has been changed from a Friday/Saturday night program to a Saturday nightJ Roberts, Spencer, Mamola lead U.S. to Transatlantic Trophy Match Race Victory 2 TARFORLEY, CHESHIRE, ENGLAND, APR. 7 Kenny Roberts (Yam), Freddie Spencer (Yam) and Randy Mamola (Suz) teamed up to leed a Team USA rout over Team Britain in the 10th Annual Marlboro Transatlantic Trophy Match Race Saries. It was the first time since 1971 that one team hed racked up wins In every race of the six event road racing series held over the Easter Holiday. The final tally showed the USA with 443 points to a total of 369 for Britain. The overall win was the fourth for Team USA. Brands Hatch hosted the first two events on Good Friday, and it was Freddie Spencer - In his first ride anywhere outside the U.S. - who showed the way with resounding victories In both rounds. Roberts, who seams to thrive at Mallory Park. could do no wrong and swept both events. Again it was Team USA coming out on top of both rounds when the scoring had been figured. The British team staved off a complete rout by out-scoring the Americans In the,flnalleg. Roberts, Spencar and Mamola led the scoring with 92, 76 and 74 points, respectively. Skip Aksland (Yam) tallied 67 points, John Long (Yam) 36, with Dale Singleton (Yam) and Rich Schlachter (Yam) scoring 34. Wes Cooley (Yam) and David Aldana (Yam) rounded out the scoring with 24 and 17 points, respectively. Keith Huewen (Yam) was the top British scorer with 59 points.
