As they hurtled off Banzai Hill, Broc Glover pushed his factory Yamaha to the head of a tightly-bunched pack with Myerscough right behind. As they came to the sharp. slow downhill turn after the backstraight, though, Myerscough got a wheel past Glover and went into the lead, not to be headed again_ Burnworth, Hangrown winner Mark Barnett and Ward flashed by next at the end of lap one_ . Barnett went by Burnworth t next time around with Ward foil • suit on lap three. Burnworth ev ntually finished 11th. Blose pushed his way into the top five a few laps later. Positions remained unchanged until midway through the moto. Ward got his second wind and moved in on Barnett. He couldn't find a way by him until lap 16. though, when he saw an opening on the Webco Hill and zapped Barnett. Glover had drifted back in the meantime and was now within Ward's range. He bobbled a couple of times to close things up in a battle for second. With only a few laps to go, Glover got a bit bogged down in the last turn. That was all it took and in a flash, Ward zipped by with Barnett in tow. They started to spread out a little after that, making it appear as though the finishing order was decided. It wasn't. On the last lap, Ward went down, both Barnett and Glover going by before he could climb back on the bike. Ward explained later that, "I knew Barnett had that last lap charge so I didn't slow down. I went into that corner and it started swapping and spit me off." Myerscougb took the checkered, shook his fist in the air and looked back, but Barnett and Glover were not yet in sight. Ward, disgusted with himself, cruised in fourth while some 40 seconds back came Blose followed closely by Johnny O'Mara on the watercooled Mugen. Honda's Ron Sun and Rich Coon, Cantaloupi and Moto-X Fox Yamaha rider Jim Holley rounded out the top 10. The start of the second moto seemed to be a repeat of the first with Glover again taking the early lead, Myerscough to his immediate rear. It was Myerscough's day, however, and he passed Glover in the back section of the track on lap two, eventually winning by some 25 seconds. Barnett laid back in third until lap nine when he followed his teammate's precedent and forced Glover to accept third. From that point, positions stayed relatively the same, though Ward did 7
