Photos by Mike Klinger and Kariya ORANGE, CA, MAR. 30 Team Suzuki continued to roll over the opposition with wins in both the 125 and 250cc segments of the Coors/Yamaha National Championship Motocross races at Saddleback Park. Fonner minicycle champ Brian Myerscough won both 125cc motos by a clear-cut margin while teammate Kent Howenon 6 came from back in the pack to win the first 250cc moto, then finished two lengths behind Yamaha's Marty Tripes in the second race. Surprisingly, Howerton said he didn't care too much for the track which used parts of different Saddleback motocross tracks, including the infamous Banzai Hill. "There's nothing really tricky about it," he said, "There's just a lot of jumps. It seems like a big stadium track. The only thing that's natural is the hills." Myerscough, originally from southern California, said he didn't mind the track. ''I'm used to it; I've ridden here a lot," were his comments after winning. Preliminaries The first 125cc qualifier saw Chappy Blose on the factory Kawasaki water· pumper in front wire· to-wire as he did the previous week at Hangtown. Yama· ha's Donnie Cantaloupi got second. Suzuki support rider Scott Burn· worth got the jump on qualifier number two. He led for two laps before being displaced by Kawasaki teamster Jeff Ward with Yamaha·mounted Rick Maki a fairly close third. The consolation event went to LOP Yamaha rider Mark Gregson followed by Phillip Larson on a Hi Point Racing· sponsored Yamaha. Another LOP rider, Mark Lawrence, took the first 250cc qualifier. Team· mate Kippy Pierce made it on LOP one· two with his second place finish. Local favorite Scott Gillman on a Yamaha won the second qualifier with another Saddleback regular, Tony Wanket on a Moto·X Fox·sponsored Yamaha, a close second.
