point but, at the signal from his pit
crew, he settled back into "second"
rather than challenge Haney.
With
the
winner
apparently
decided, the race for second became
the focal point. Californians Dave
Busby and Fred Winters and Texan
Kevin Brunson rubbed fairings in an
intense three-way skirmish that began
on lap five and lasted until the final
trip around the 3.M-mile course.
When the checkered flag came out.
it was Busby's Yamaha that followed
Filice's machine across the banked
finish line. Winters took third. and
Brunson's
