One fast and classy rider from Omaha was 125cc Expert Randy Tysor (Yam) who pulled the holeshot in his first moto and flew to the checkers. Clay Hoenshell (Yam) chased him but was not able to get around. In the second moto, Hoenshell chose to lead all the way with Tysor ending up second. A giant mud/ice/waterhole claimed ,many riders in the back part of the track. Such was the case in the Open Expert class. Brad Bendy (Yam) was out of the gate first. turned around later to check the competition and the only rider following closely was Chuck Hoenshell (Yam). Everyone else had fallen. In the second moto, Hoenshell took the lead and Bendy chased, finishing sec· ond. Mike Smith claimed third with 3· 3 finishes. In the 250cc Novice class, 28 riders stormed away from the gate with Rick Hillhouse leading the first lap. Tommy Pickens (Yam), plagued by a bad start, worked up to ride sixth across the line on the first lap and kept push· ing, passing Chuck Musgrove, Bobby Munday (Yam) and Hillhouse. He then surged on unchallenged to win. Jerry Barngrover took over the lead in the second moio and held on until the third lap when Pickens, running second, passed to take the lead.
