place rider McDougal and then Williams. On lap 12, Ward pulled off' the track with a snapped chain as he was getting ready to lap the fifth place rider. This gave Peterson the lead and a big win. But the overall went to Williams with his outstanding 2-2 tally. Peterson went 4-1 for second overall and believe it or not, Ward was third (1-8) because he was one lap ahead of a major~ty of the field. Two qualifying motos had to be run to select the top 27 riders to enter the 250cc Pro main event. Jeff Ward won. qualifier one and Honda's Jim Gibson picked up qualifier two. The stage was then set for the 250cc Pros. Would it be the Honda of Gibson or the green machines of Ward and Robert Reisinger or the Suzukis of Bob Elliott and Jim Tarantino, the consolation winner? Off the line and Ward squirted ahead of Gibson with Tarantino closing and Scott Johnson (Hon) picking up the slack. As the race began to stabilize, Ward crossed the fmish line on lap 10 and for some reason stalled the Kawasaki. Gibson was right there to take advantage of the mishap and take the lead. Gibson went to win, Ward was second and Tarantino turned in a good third place effort. Reisinger, who placed second in his qualifier, was fourth in moto one. The second event saw Gibson turn the tables on Ward and get the holeshot ...ith Reisinger and Andy Kirker (Yam) making up the top four. Brian Maloney (Hon), Johnson and Tarantino were neck-in-neck for sixth behind Andy Orescanin (Suz). Tarantino's pressure on Orescanin was so intense that the Suzuki rider began to fall off the pace. As the riders emerged from the turns through the trees, Gibson was nowhere to be found. He had pulled off with mechanical problems. Ward was then the winner and the overall was awarded to him with a fine 2-1 ~oring. Reisinger put together two fantastic rides (4-2) for second overall. Kirker held onto third in moto two which gave him fourth overall in the standings. Tarantino's fourth place finish gave him a 3-4 tally good enough for third overall behind Reisinger. In the Open Pro class, Robert Marino (Yam) took care of business as he topped off the day with the overall honors. Following Marino in the standings was Val Tamietti (Mai), who is making a big comeback. Bob Elliott (Suz) was third, followed by Gary Jones (Amx) and Bill Jewell (Mai).
