The track (tacky the day before) turned into hard chunks of frozen dirt. Mike Gilliland, riding a super-fast Yamaha, shot around David Landgraf (Suz) to take over first in the 125cc Novice class. Landgraf then hit one of the giant ice blobs and took a spectacular spill that forced him out of competition. Jim Anderson (Yam) finished second and Tim Rains (So2) claimed third. In the second moto, Anderson charged from tbe ouuide aC1"Olll the pack to grab fint with GiIli1and sticking behind him like J(lue. Gilliland got around during the fourth lap and finished first followed by Anderson and Matt Riley (Hon). The combined 250cc and Open Expert class laW Greg Prestage (Yam 465) pull the boleshot and ride a strong first to the checkers. Scott Cook (Hon 250) took second and Jim Thomas (Hon 250), with a definite problem out of the gate, exchanged his lut place fOT third. Out of the gate in the second moto, Cook and Thomas shot out ahead of tbe pack with Cook barely ahead. Thomas challenged him the whole moto (it was a great contest) but couldn't get around. Prestage was last out of the gat~ this time and Steve Cook (Hon 250) felt the pressur~ from him. On a short straigbt, Prestage's 465 overpowered Cook's 250. Prestage then had a little misundentanding with a tree and Cook got back around. Going into a corner together, both went out and came back trailing weeds with Prestage recovering and finishing third followed by Cook fourth. T......, ...e.- ae-t: Twin Spp. tlomnwIl~.
