fantastic until a bad line gave Bob
Elliott and his Suzuki rocket a chance
to get into the lead. Once in front Bob
was off to explore the Carlsbad
outback all by himself. Riding with his
new sponsor's colors, Horsepower
Factory speedster David Gerig was in
Bob
and

hot
pursuit.
dominated the entire race. The other
riders never even threatened them.
When Buzz Croft put Ollt the checkers
the points went to Elliott, Gerig,
Randy Norman (Yam), Poner, Dale
Lewis (Mai and Terry Turner (Yam).
When the gate dropped into the
goop the second time it was again a
Suzuki vs. Horsepower Factory go for
the gold. Elliott and Gerig made shon
work of the remainder of the riders to
capture the cash.
As the last of the machines were
being loaded in~o the backs of vans
and trucks the heavy clouds that had
been threatening us all day let go with
lots of big drops and the rains came.
All last season, Terry Kizer's
laydown-framed Kawasaki "2"
was stacking up the mammoth
pile of points that crowned him
king in the tough Pro Competition
class-even though he was
narrowly beaten at the IDBA
\\brId Finals by another Kawasaki,
ridden by Jeff Masters. All Jeff
could say was, "Maybe next year."
And you better believe him,
'cause he's got the bike to do it.
With Kawasaki, there's no way the
good times are gonna pass you by.
