I The Open Pro class at Corona Raceway last Friday once again saw a typicaUy smooth Rex Staten walk aU over the com- . . 36 petition with a production YZ 465. Ron ChaskI (Yam) was in IeCOnd all the way, but Stuan Beattie (Yam) had to race for third after staning off in lIneDth. Staten decided to make his Dellt moto more interesting by staning a couple of seconds after everyone else left the gate. ChaskI was the one to lead for a lap, but it wam't much longer than that when Staten came Dying by. ChasltI was again second with Beattie third, Rob Tolleson (Yam) founh and Mark Mangold rounding out the top five. . The 250cc Pro moto had a much closer race between Many Miller (Suz) and Fairview Yamaha's Ted Hoyt. Andy Orescanin (Suz) got the fmt moto holesbot while Miller raced with Don Griewe (Mai) for second place. Miller broke free of Griewe on the second lap and soon caught up to Orescaoin, but then both riden ran into trouble. Oresc:anin dropped out of the race while Miller bob-bled and let Hoyt get the lead. From there on in it was MiDer and Hoyt a few bikdengths a~, but never cla.e enough to be dicing for the lea~. In the Dellt round, Hoyt got the hoIeshot aDd beld off Miller's attack all the way to the finish. Griewe overcame a crash to take third, making both the moto and the 0ftI'a1l results read Hoyt. Miller and Griewe. The Open Intermediate class saw two Yamaha of Cucamonga riders get into an all out battle for the top spot. The fint moto went to Don Glover while his friend Roben Casper came through traffic to net second. Ed Kis· sell (Yam) foll!JWed the duo to third ahead of Guy Campbell (Suz) and Mike Roach (Yam). It was in the next moto that Casper beat Glover to the first turn aDd then went on to take the race, with Glo¥er Deft!' more than a feet away.
