....thera Callforala. Arlzoaa·2 out there in the lead but Ron Clawson moved up to take over and win the fLrst moto. Taking second with a lot of style was Gene Powell. Following Gene was Smith in third and George Spearing in fourth. Spearing reversed things a little in the second moto with his first place win. Another good show by Powell put him into another second place victory. Capturing third was Ron Clawson who was followed by Asher Larnkjaer. Bob Anderson took the holeshot in the Novice division in moto one and made the most of it with his first place win. Doing some good stuff and coming in second was Larry Calderon on his 125cc. Everette Hatler saw his way in for a nice third place win, and following him was Bob Alloy. The first place honors in the second moto was won by Paul Mayhew, It was Mayhew's right from the beginning. Dan Kawashima gassed it up and lOok a good second. Anderson placed third in this one, and Alloy was there to claim fourth, Soft-spoken Sid's the kind of guy who usually lets the ladies go first. Except when the lady is KZlOOO-mounted Vicki Farr, Sid's runoff rompetition at the IDBA \\brld Finals. In an earlier run, she had soundly defeated Teny Vance. And now, it was Sid's tum. But instead of minding his manners, Sid gunned his Zl·R. When the smoke cleared, it was Pogue first-for the win and the 1980 Pro Stock No.1 plate. Of course, Sid's victory doesn't mean that men are any better than women. It just means that if you're going to beat a Kawasaki, you gotta ride a Kawasaki. So don't let the good times pass you by. Gang slides Into 1980 By Bye Bye Bob Newkirk VALENCIA, CA,.JAN. 12 In spite of monsoon type weather, the Over The Hill Gang showed up in modest number Sunday to kick off their 1980 racing season by indulging in a little "mud"o-cross with each other. Get-Off Gary of the Expen class shot out in front of each race and bagged both mOlOS, In moto one, Stubby Steve ate Gary's mud all the way for second. Corroded Carlos held third place until Pitter Pat slid by him on the last lap. In the second molO, Stubby Steve stormed after Get-Off Gary again. Unfortunately, the mire got the best of him in the last lap. Pitter Pat moved in to take the checkered, followed closely by Fragrant Frank. Jester Jerry decimated the Amateur class with his new Yamaha YZ 465. Nail-'em-on-the-straighlS Jinx Jerry, and Just Jim dueled for second place, but it was Jerry who took home the number two trophy for the day. Just Jim earned a not too shabby third. In the Intermediate class, Kwik Keith ran away with both motos. Absent AI thundered behind for second in each race. Lean Lenny, just having been moved up to the Intermediates, broke in a new Maico for third place. The largest class of the day were the determined Novices. In their first moto, Nehi Norm not only led the boys all the way, but also Intermediate rider Kwik Keith for most of the moto. Jalopeno Jose stole the second place spot away from Jumpin' Jack on the third lap and took it home. In the second moto, Nehi Norm grabbed an early lead, then slid out on a turn, Jalopeno took over and won, followed by hard-pushing Jumpin' Jack. • Results EXPERT: 1. Ge!.()ff Gety IMail; 2. Pin..
