Young Tim Aston, Kawasakimount~. held down fourth ahead of th~ mid· pack swarm. Th~ first 10-lap moto came to a quick close with Holland stretching an unbelievable 50·~cond lead over little Lou Franco and Scott Hewatt on his Tony Porrini·tuned Honda. Moto numb~r two for the Ex~rts was .almost a carbon copy of the o~mng race as George Holland the third did it agaiD. with sheer class. Hewatt. on his first works rid~. ran into a few problems which forced him back a bit during th~ second moto. Scores showed Holland (1-1), Franco (2-2). and Tim Aston (4-3). Pirlo's main com~tition came again from Yamaha rid~r Patrick Im~ratric~ of Los Banos. Pirlo has the maximum 60 points in his quest of the Stat~ Crown. Chris Lewis riding for No-Name Promotions of Elk Grov~ pulled out a 4-1 molO tally which was casual as the Suzuki rider cop~ a pot~nt second place finish, ending up behind A. Neling~r. S~~dster Allen Silhanik (Suz) placed second after a day· long dice with Paul Cano, also riding a Suzuki. Division two saw a must-win situation for Scott Yarbrough if h~ want~ to Slay on top of the points race. YarbTOugh came through with the overa.II, but not without a rag·tag battle WIth San Jose's Ricky Ryan. Ryan clashed with Yarbrough and Blake Ueki, grabbing the first moto victory. Yarbrough had an easier time ~uring the nex~ bash when Ryan fell IOlo one of th~ now numerous mud swamps that had taken over the track enabling Scott to claim the victory and hold on to his slim points lead. Can· Am standings now show Yarbrough, (49). Paul Cano (45), Blake Ueki (59) and David Schlosser holding down founh overall with 38 pts. The 250cc Int. division proved to be a heavy show as Rik Nielsen, Georg~ Knott and Lance Coleman continued to play havoc with the rest of the field. Nelson (Yam) and Donnie Hawkins dogg~ it out together but the show belon~ to Stewart. When the next batch of Mini-Cycles came back to hit th~ track, CMC President Stu Peters was forc~ to make a few track changes as the Fremont ~ud was now eating up men 'and machmery at a alarming rate. With the mid·section taken care of Mik~ Young, riding in the Mini Jr. 9: 11 stock ~gment increas~d the d!stance between Jeff Stephens and hlUlself wllh today's 5-1 finish.
