Turner, Breker and Denton were close behind and going for it. On lap three Burtt took over while at the same time Breker found a way around Denton. Two laps later, Breker and zeroed in on Turner and started pushing. Their battle carried them "around both Gormley and Burtt and into the lead where they continued to dice. They began to get into lapped traffic once again, but rather early in the race, and Breker took advantage of the situation. While Turner struggled to pass one lapped on the left, Breker went around them both on the right and took the lead. At first Breker started to pull ahead but Turner found a little more speed in the second half of the race and came up to rechallenge the leader. The two of them were never more than one or two bikelengths apart for the rest of the molO, but Breker held out to take the win. Burtt cruised in to an uncontested third ahead of Demon, Marty Miller (Suz), Griewe and Marino. Overall it read Breker, Turner, Denton, Burtt, Marino and Miller. " In the Open class, Breker had an easier time on his 420cc Kawasaki. Ted Hoyt jumped into the lead of the first molO, but it was Breker on top before long. He pulled ahead to a strong lead while Bob Marino (Yam) pushed Hoyt to get into second. After a few laps of holding out, Hoyt gave in and let Marino by, but by that time, Breker was long gone. Mark White (Mai) also came up to pass Hoyt in the later part of the molO, making the line-up at the finish Breker, Marino, While, Hoyt and Dave Latz (Mai). The next race was like a carbon copy of the first, with Breker pulling out to a big lead before the halfway point. Once again Marino came through 10 pull a second while White scored third over Hoyt and Latz. In the 125cc Pro race, the first moto holeshot went to Roger Hensley (Suz) while Jerry Hensley (Suz) was second. When they came around at the end of the first lap, Roger was still on top, but Scott Manning had moved into second and was pushing for the lead. But on the fourth lap, Manning tangled with Roger and went down, handing second place to Jim Holley, who had piloted his support Yamaha from a mid pack start. Holley set his sights on Hensley and passed him on the fifth lap. From there all the way to the end of the race, it was Holley'S show. Turner, riding a Luft 125cc Suzuki, had gotten a poor start, but by the end of the race he was able to net a third behind Hensley and on top of Gary Ogden (Hon) and Andy Orescanin (Suz). In the next race Craig Dale, who had troubles with his Husky in round one, took the lead early in the race. Dale looked strong umil he began to approach the halfway point in the race and his bike once again began to sputter and cough. He let Holley by first, then Turner. Turner wasn't going to be satisfied with second, however, and he continued his drive until he had the lead on lap 10. He took it home, but Holley's 1-2 score netted him the overall and Turner had to be satisfied with another second place_ Dale held on to third in the final mOlO, but in the final standings he was fourth behind Hensley. Tarantino, Schulz, Atkins take CRC Saddleback cash By Nanette Marie ORANGE, CA, NOV. 25 With the Thanksgiving weekend entering its final day, the California Racing Club went out to Saddleback Park and hosted their usual bi-weekly motocross, on a revised course. With a moderate rider turnout, races were bumped up a few laps to give every rider a longer pair of motos, and a bit more thrashed body at the end of the day. The first race of the afternoon was the Pro class, and in the first molO of the 2505, Pete Snorte1and took the holeshot on his Can-Am with Jim Domann, Andy Guth and Jim Tarantino behind. In the first few laps Snorteland pulled out to a good lead,' while Domann and Tarantino slipped past Guth. In another lap, Tarantino got by Domann, and that battle for second closed the runners-up behind Snorteland. At the halfway ,mark in the moto, Tarantino put heavy pressure on Snorte1and, and then the Cole Bros. Suzuki pilot flew by in the backsection. From there it was easy going for Tarantino, who pulled way out in front, but second went to Domann, after Snorte1and's Can-Am apparently sprung a leak in the gas tank and his fuel supply went dry. Guth picked up third on his WFOsponsored Kawasaki. In round twd', Tarantino again got off to a fourth place start, but this time Domann had command. Tarantino worked up to the leader, passing Guth and Snorteland, then put the pressure on the leader. Domann could not pull away from Tarantino, and within two laps, Tarantino was out in front. He went on to another win and the overall, as Domann held on for second ahead of Guth. In the Open Pro class, Alan Olsen and Bob Schulz went at it. trading wins and second placings in a tie for the overall. I n round one, Schulz played a little catch-up as Olsen took his Maico into the lead early. Schulz, who is fresh out of the Intennediate ranks, pulled up by moto's end, but couldn't find a way around. In moto two, Schulz was the early leader, and Olsen had to try and get by. For the entire moto Olsen was right on Schulz's rear end, but when the checkers flew, it was Schulz still in command. Third overall went to Joe Price's 4-3 score. The 125cc Pros saw nothing but the rear end of Rick Atkins' R&D Racing Suzuki. In both motos Atkins took the holeshot and pulled out a 15-second lead, with Robert Green coming· into second place too late in the race 10 catch him. Third overall went to Rich Franklin, as Don Best and Mark Larnkjaer trailed. A hotly-contested 125cc Novice class put 23 riders on the line for each molO, and at the end of the day Robert Gowealer was on top. In moto one Gowealer took an early lead over Danny Sanchez and Rob Engel. By moto's end Gowealer had stretched out his lead 10 a very comfortable margin and cruised in for the win. In the second moto, however, Gowealer took the holeshot again, but this time Dennis Hulen was right behind and charging hard. A crash in the backsection in the first molO put Holen dead last with a pair of handlebars bent clear down beside the Yamaha lettering on his Luftsponsored machine, but Hulen came from 23rd to 17th when th.e checkered flag came out. By the second lap, Hulen was right on the rear fender of Gowealer, and as the duo came up the finish straight, Hulen slipped a wheel under Gowealer and went by for the lead. Gowealer stayed right with Hulen for the rest of the molO, but never could get by. His second place finish was good enough for the overall. with Hulen taking eighth in the final standings. Second overall went to Rod Engel's 3-3 finishes, and third went to Danny Sanchez's 2-5 . Results 125 PRO: 1. Rich Atkins ISuzI: 2. Robert Gr..., (5021; 3. Rich FrriIin (Henl. 500 PRO: 1. Breker takes two at AME $1000 MX By Super Funky VALENCIA, CA, NOV. 18 Goat Breker, debuting his new Uni-Trak Kawasakis put it to the 250cc and Open Pros with wins in both classes at this American Motocross Enterprises event. The 2505 provided the most actionpacked field with Breker on a brand new Uni-Trak Kawasaki and Donnie Hansen on his new Honda ride. Others to bid for some cash were Luft Racing's Radical Ron Turner, CanAm's Kippy Pierce, Mugen's Clark Jones and LOP's Mark Lawrence_ Kolbe Cycles-sponsored Bobby Kline holeshot the first moto with Ron Turner in second. Turner followed Kline for just a. few laps before he disappeared from the rest of the pack. Meanwhile, Breker had broken away and into third. At the halfway point Turner had a 15-second lead with Breker starting to hustle his way closer to Radical Ron. Kline fell back to seventh, Kippy Pierce was sixth. fifth was Tracy Oswell, fourth was Donnie Hansen and Tim Locey was third. These positions were spread apan as most of the second half of the moto was used to catch up to the from runners. Turner took the second moto lead ahead of Hansen, Breker and Kline. On lap three, Hansen relieved Turner of the lead, and the trio of Hansen, Turner and Breker freight-trained for the next four laps before Turner started to fade with shock problems. Then an intense battle for the lead opened up between Hansen and Breker, w'ith Breker giving Hansen little breathing room. In the last few laps, they swapped the lead a few times, with Breker making the final pass just one and a half laps before the finish. Breker took the overall win, Hansen was second and Locey placed third ahead of Turner. The 125cc Pros took off with the scream of John O'Mara's Tom Halverson-prepared Mugen Honda in the lead. O'Mara demolished the competition in this race, putting an average of two seconds a lap on second place! Jim Holley had a mid-pack start but his aggressive riding style put him
