Blose blows away

SUNNYMEAD. CA, NOV. 18
With most southern California
MX fanatics sleeping in the
morning after the Anaheim MX
Finals it was a light turnout at
DeAnza Cycle Park. but 11 250cc were
enough to have an exciting race.
Arizona's Chappy Blose came out with
two Bosch spark plug powered Uni·
Trak Kawasakis and went home with
the top money in the 125 as well as the
250cc class.
In the first 250cc moto, however. he
was behind Craig Gormley (Yam) and
Keith Williamson (Yam) for most of
the race. Gormley managed to build a
strong lead while Blose wrestled with
Williamson and he kept that lead
through out the moto. In the final
laps, Blose gained' slightly on the
leader,
having
gotten
around
Williamson, but it was not enough and
the moto went to Gormley.
In the second round, Gormley was
again on top. but this time with Blose
right on his tail. The two of them were
never more than a few feet apan for
the next 10 laps, with Blose unable to
find any lines that were faster than
Gormley's. It wasn't until they got into
lapped traffic that Blose took control.
He went on to win the race with
Gormley in second and Williamson
again third.
In the U5cc Pro class, Blose had no
trouble in taking a double win.
Warren Bell (Suz) was a distant second
in both races ahead of Dave Coyle.
The Open c1asa also had a good race
between Dave Faltz (Mai) and Eddie
Michetti (Mai). Michetti was in
command of the first moto by a good
margin when he MaUed his bike at the
halfway point. He rataned in time to
save second place, but Faltz was long
Maico rider, John Gibbs.
Michetti was again in front of the
next round, but Faltz was much closer
this time and was able to take the lead
after a few laps. A short time later,
Michetti dropped out of the race with
bike trouble and gave second to Gibbs.
In the 250cc Intermediate class it
was Ken Miller (Yam) taking the win
after some close dicing with Mark
Branch. Branch had to be satisfied
with runner· up in both motos while
Randy Wilson was third.

Tamlettl returns,

By Terry Whytel
ORANGE, CA, NOV. 17
Val Tamietti returned to racing
in style by beating the best of
the Open Pro class at Saturday
Saddleback Motocross. Well re-
.8l.?I!~.~J:hk(t~I~_'!~t~!~ _~oo_t~~r. hH~_~}~'?J!l a serious injury,
Tarnietti rode his Maico with
characteristic style as he won both
motos despite the strong pressure from
runner·up Bill Hagen, who also rode a
Maico.
Mark Lawrence had his hands full
keeping Suzuki·mounted Ed Arnet
and Honda rider Clint Hardick behind
his Yamaha on route to winning the
250cc Pro class.
The 125cc Pro class became the
battleground for tWO top Saddleback
riders Chris Heisser and Mike Brown.
HeiSser slammed his Honda into the
lead in the first moto while Brown
settled for second. The next moto was
all Brown's as he wicked his Yamaha
into a coinmanding early lead that
HeiMer was never able to overcome.
Greg Painter continues to look good
in the Open Intermediate class
keeping his mighty Maico up front,
even in the face of stiff competition
provided by Maico riders Dan
Hanebrink and Marino Bastionell,
who finished second and third.
Week after week the most exciting
amateur class has to be the 250cc
Intermediates. Riders trade moto
positions like baseball cards and
consistency usually pays off. It did ihis
week for Honda rider Mike Pau1se1l as
he gave everyone the slip on his way to
a perfect victory. Husky rider David
Andrew,
Suzuki·mounted
Todd
Simmons and Brett Allen on a Can·
Am battled for the runner· up position
with Simmons finishing second and
Andrew third.
Jim Castillo danced his Suzuki into
the winner's circle with two perfect
motos in the Open Junior c1allS.
Castillo had to hold off challenges by
second place finisher Scott Paul
(KTM) and Eric Anderson (Hus) who
finished third.
The U5cc Beginner race was full of
surprises as riden pasaed and repassed
and the finishing positions were very
confused. The main action was
provided by Kawasaki rider John
Shibinger and Suzuki rider Brian
McDaniel. while Husky-mounted Jim
Banning and Suzuki pilot Gary
Harada took turns playing the spoiler.
When the dust settled on two exciting
motels, the winner was Schibinger
followed by McDaniel and Banning.

RED MOUNTAIN. CA, NOV. 18
Open C rider Eddie Rock
decided to try his hand at win·
ning a new IT and came up a
contender by taking first place
over A riders Tom Webb. Larry
Woodruff and 650 other riden.
After a lot of complaints earlier this
year concerning time IIChedules too
tough for real family enduros.
California Racing Club decided to
lighten up and make it possible for
"beginners to be competitive." While
it takes considerable skill to navigate a
70'mile course staying on your minute.
the difference between pulling in three
seconds or four seconds off is pure
luck, or in the case of Mr. Rock, who
won by one second, devine guidance
possibly? One thing malting the
enduros easier are the computerized
route charts available from a lovely
young lady at signup who calls her
company Jan. With a lot of various
options available I, found the biggest
advantage to be the easy· to-read
printed numben as opposed to my
own IICribbles.
While the courses may be easier
now, they haven't become any less
interesting. Riders on the first loop
were treated to an early morning ride
over a ridge Nonh of Trona Road that
allowed a beautiful view of Ri
