................ . ~ BRUCE OGILVIE CAL CITY G.P. WINNER Bruce Teams With HRed Dot" Tires To Make Overall Victory Benny McElvann 1163p1 and Doug Young test their talents lit SRA GP. Conway, who rides for Competition Cycle, literally ran away with this one. He fmished with a two-minute lead over Amateur Chuck Koistra (Mai) who had his hands fujI trying to stay in front of Expert Vern Heth (Yam). Although Koistra held second after Don Mardon went out with bike problems, Heth couldn't have been closer without being in front. While these two showed motorcycling at its best, Bill Misner (Yam) dropped back to spar with desert Expert Roger Absit, who had just aced Steve Bigler on a Yamaha. Absit signed up as a Beginner which started him on the last row, then he worked his way up to fifth overall. Danny Drew claimed an easy first Novice after acing three Amateurs, "Weird Harold" Soens, Tom Bell. Sr. and Neil Fearing. Wes Ronning was second Novice and after Absit, Jack Liddy was top Beginner. The 8I-200cc class features the fastest, g1Jtsiest talent around and that describes Robert Pfeuing. Pfeuing, who rides for Fullerton Yamaha, displays talent and skill that comes only from doin' it and doin' it and doin' it again and he's got it right. The young Expert took the lead and left the battle to Kevin Graves, Bill Holmes, Tim Daily and Bellflower's "Bul\it," Kevin Senn. Senn went down . and was replaced by Bob Farr. Daily dropped back to battle with Torsten Corum while behind him Lester Vasquez began fighting off the up righted Senn and Mark Heth. This vicious battling continued until the end. Behind Pfetzing, the real race had been between Graves (Expert) and Holmes (Amateur), from White Cloud Ranch, who finished side by side. This tremendous finish on Holmes' part earned him a transfer to Expert. Behind the pair were Bob Farr, claiming second Amateur, Tim Daily (third Expert), Torsten Corum, (first Novice), Lester Vasquez, (second Novice), Kevin Senn (third Amateur) and Mark Heth (third Novice). The Beginners kept it straight and finished John Penner, Doug Young and Mike Bain for 1-2-3. Craig Adams is known as the "Incredible Iron Man" and he did it again. The 250cc race and the Open were back to back and both belonged to Craig. Rumors were spreading that Adams had been hurt at the Cal City GP. He quickly showed, if there was an injury, he had healed and was faster than ever. In the 250cc race, Craig had a hell of a lead followed by a tight pack who continually changed places but finished in this order: Steve Blakely (Expert), Warren Barr (Expert), Greg Johns (Amateur), John Taylor (Expert), Roland Woods (Expert). and Doug Maxwell (Expert). Tom Mitchell and Greg Sawyer were second and third Amateurs while Larry Jacklin, Jeff Bare and McCuistion claimed NoYice honors. Top Beginners were Stephan McElvana, Glenn Plummer and David Furbush. Behind Adams in the Open. class, Experts Randy Hollenbeck and Jerry Lowell had fun fighting off the redheaded Senior, Charlie Conway. Roland Dean and Lou Douplessis were frrst and second Amateurs. Ron Monreal aced Kurt Dietrich and Jay Crone for top Novice honors and beat Bob Hueth who was third Amateur. Kim Baird, Michael Smith and Charles Sanner were 17th, 18th, and 19th overall. claiming first, second and third Beginner positions. Results ().9()cc: 1. Jason Prater lAm); 2. Barry CrawfOfd IE.): 3.
