The Pat Jacobson Motocross.
Wowl What a gathering. '01
Buck was there, Jim Pomeroy
was there, Darrel Shultz was
there, and they all rode for Pat.

An idea that sparked in the hean of
a pretty blue eyed family friend grew
to become the biggest motocross race
in the Pacific Nonhwest this year.
They all calJle to ride for Pat - 500
Amateur riders and 140 Pros.
Jim Pomeroy expressed it best to his
little bike cleaners when they asked
about pay. "Today we're riding for
Pat." The Beta was clean for each
moto and the kids and Jim were all
there because of Pat.
One of the best things about the
weekend was that Pat was home for
the first time since the August 5 race
when he was hun in the first turn pile
up in the Texas National.
Racing was at its best; signup looked
like a National event. The U.S. Suzuki
Team was on hand to ride the benefit
and eBCouraged all motocross racers in
the Pacific Nonhwest to do the same.
An addition was made to the Supercross gate to make it possible for a full
26 rider lineup to start. Amateur heats
were ~Id on Saturday and their mains
were slotted between Pro motos
throughout the race program Sunday.
Racing got underway Sunday with
the 250cc Pro heats. Kawasaki
mounted Phil Larson and LOP's Mark
Gregson were on top of their rides. In
moto two Brian Myerscough passed
Larson on lap five to claim his victory
in heat one. Heat two action went
again to LOP Mark Gregson and so
the scoreboard read Gregson two
points; Larson three points and
Myerscough four points when the
transfer was made.
I25cc Pros took to the field and
tre'!ted Pat to some of the best dicing
around. Three heats scrambled for
main positions with eight riders from
each making the transfer. The results
were out of sight. After all was said
and done, Jeff Hayden (Suz) and Bob
Buffaloe (Bellevue Suz) split a pair in
heat one. Hi Point's Phil Larson (Kaw)
aced his beat and Terry Hofoss (Kaw
Canada) won in heat three.
.
All Open Pros rode together and
U.S. Suzuki.rider Darrel Shultz won all
three rounds with Beta mounted Jim
Pomeroy taking a solid second overall.
Pro main events turned out to be a
super s!:!ow for the crowd and T.V..
cameras on hand. Mark Gregson was
the master of the 250cc class; with
CMC rules calling for a total score of
all motos, LOP deserved the top position. U.S. Suzuki team member Bryan
Myerscough was a joy to watch and
rode to a solid second for team
member Pat Jacobson. Phil Larson
(Kaw) clinched third.
The 125cc Pro main and overall became the exclusive propeny of Phil
Larson (Kaw) with perfect movement
throughout the course in the very last
moto of race action. Terry Hofoss
(Kaw Canada) wrapped up second and
Bob Buffaloe (Bellevue Suzuki) took
third to round out the $3000
guaranteed Pro purse.
The Pat Jacobson Race Committee
thanks all of those people helping or
riding for Pat. Hours of hard work
were donated by many workers before the event and during the
excitement. Many business people and
motorcycle shops gave money, merchandise, and time to make things a
little easier for Pat. Their help was
greatly appreciated.
Special thanks to the U.S. Suzuki
Team for helping out by jumping on
board - riding for Pat, meeting and
greeting fans and friends.
