Jim Holley gained a ticket to Anaheim at CRC's Saddleback qualifier. instead. Reisinger has run in several AMA National events and hopes to enter the circuit again this year and to run with the Pros at the Coca-Cola Motocross Finals. However, he'll go for . a chance to top the Amateur event if his Pro ticket doesn't come through. Curt McCuiston rode his own green machine home in second place in the first moto followed by Yamaha/LOPsponsored Mark Lawrence. In the overall, however, it was Lawrence who finished number two with a second in the second round while McCuistion picked up third for that final ~ition. Jim Holley rode his Moto-X Fox/ Yamaha support bike to ace both 125cc Pro races. Pulling himself up through the ranks in the first moto, Holley just made it to the front in the second to last lap when Bob Kline, who had been leading the chase, bailed out of the competition. Bruce McDougal finished second with Rick Maki taking third. Holley produced a second win in the next race and led by a good margin most of the way. McDougal and Maki, however, did a bit of close dicing throughout the moto and up to the wire it remained uncertain as to how they would place overall. As ii happened Maki turned the tables on McDougal and finishing in second place came up second overall while McDougal settled for third. Goat Breker and Mark Brooks met in hot competition once again but Breker took his U.S. Norstar Husky througb the turns for..a double Open Pro victory. Breker will be racing the Coca Cola Motocross Finals at tbe Anaheim Stadium. Brooks' second place victory was a nice comeback after being out of racing for three months with a broken finger, whicb still gives him trouble. Carlos Serrano, riding for Maico West and Moto-X Fox, finished third overall. Results OPeN PRO: 1. Goat Broker IHusl; 2. Mark Brooks (Mail; 3. Carlos Serrano IMaiI. OPeN INT: 1. Elks ·Roadriders host their annual poker run By Harry Fisher Photo by Evelyn Jensen MAYWOOD. CA, OCT. 14 Three cheers for the Huntington Park Elks Roadriders. They hosted their second annual Motorcycle Poker Run with over 650 sign-ins, and a very successful day. Entrants signed in at the Town and Country Honda store in Maywood early in the morning, and in spite of the rain, riders representing 51 clubs rode off toward their first checkpoint. By the time the first riders reached that checkpoint, however, the rain had let up and it turned out to be a fresh air and blue sky type of day for tbe rest of the ride. The ride ended up at the Huntington Park Elks Lodge for a meal in the Lodge building, trophies, and prizes ranging from a test light to check the electrical current on a motorcycle, to a fairing. A surprise drawing was held on one of the checkpoints for a $100 check. Gloria Amesqua was the lucky winner on her Harley-Davidson. Field events were held in the back parking lot and run by the Victor McLaglen Motorcycle Stunt Team. Who else was more suited for the job? The Victor's laid out a figure 8 in a square, a plank ride, a teeter-toter, and a. clotbespin pinning event. Winner of tbe male solo field event trophy was Mark Frymoyer wouldn't you know it, a fonner member of the Victor McLaglen'sl Winner of the female solo field event 'was Virigina Hearte, winner for the passenger event was Sharon Shepbard, and the winner in the trike class was Jan Voosalis. Jan had to ride blindfolded to win that event. Rider from the longest distance away was Ron Silicki from Portland, OR. After tbe field events the Victor McLaglen's put on a 3D-minute performance for tbe group with a few of their pyra-mids, cbariots, spread eagles, and backwards rides. It was quite a sight to see and appreciated by all the riders. The club was handed a check for their services but it was donated back to the Lodge for. their Cerebral Palsy Major Project Fund. The Nuggets received the largest club trophy and the Mixed Breed motorcycle club had the only two members who could successfully do one of the field event games. All in all, everyone had a good time and the riders all agreed tbat this is one run they are going to sign up for again next year. Wanket, Tripes, Johnson take CMC CarlsbadMX By Mark Kariya CARLSBAD, CA, OCT. 14 The balmy autumn day lent a rather relaxed air to off-track proceedings, in marked contrast to the ·thunder on the track as Continental Moto-sport,s Club riders bashed their way around the bumpy Carlsbad circuit. In the Open Pro class, Pete Wanket (Yam) bagged both motOs, but not before confronting Dave Gerig (Suz), who led about half of the first moto after Wanket dropped and stalled his bike before the uphill: Gerig felt Wanket's presence behind him for a little over four laps until Wanket dove for an opening in a left· hand tum on lap 10 and rode cleanly in front to the checkered flag. Gerig finished second with Chuck Pettigrew (Mai) staying just ahead of Lee Ramage (Mai) for tbird. Bill Jewell (MM) played catch-up lOhe entire moto to end up fifth after going down a·couple of times on lap one. Ramage and Wanket dead-heated going into the first tum of the second moto, but Wanket beld the upper band coming out. Gerig wrangled his way around both of them to lead the first couple of laps. He blew it, bowever, when he flew down the downhill and found the tum at the bottom racing toward him too quickly, necessitating a sbort venture down the escape trail. That was all Wanket needed and be was never headed after that. Gerig came up the bridesmaid again with Mr. Bill toughing it out and ridingeight laps sans seat for third. In the 250cc Pros, Tony Wanket (Yam) and Mike Tripes (Esc) fought over first for four laps. Wanket tben began 'to pull out a little breathing room and kept the margin safely to the finish. Some distance behind them came Pettigrew, Randy Rodriguez (Mai) and Paul Thede (SoP). Rodriguez grabbed the holeshot in the second moto, but got passed by Andrew Jefferson (Yam) before the lap ended. Wankel's hopes of joining bis brother on the winners' list were dashed when he slid out in front of the pack exiting a tum after the downhill section. He was unhurt, but in last. Jefferson led four laps while Tripes tracked him down. Tripes made his move on lap five as tbey'smoked up' tbe uphill and never "l'elinquished his spot. Rodriguez and Pettigrew slipped past Jefferson several laps from the end, making the first five's second moto finishes equal to their overall standings. Thede, after being knocked down in the first turn, climbed up to fifth. Tripes and Rick Johnson (Yam) went at it in the 125cc Pros, Tripes leading from lap one until lap 12 when Johnson pulled the quick switch on the , ledge. They were never more than four or five lengths apart as Johnson tucked in behind the Team Wax member, studying his moves. Gary Ogden on his Alba Honda/ FMF-sponsored CR came up with the third position, ahead of another Team Wax rider, Eric Baker (Suz), and Don Fuller (Suz). .. '
