These days the big guns are even sponsoring the Rick Makl, CMC Saddleback'. 126cc Pro winn., leads Andy Northrup. Good day for JennIngs at CMC Saddleback MX By Mike Klinger ORANGE, CA, OCT. 21 Due to the early Saturday rain we experienced in SoCal, Continental Moto-sports Club was forced to move from their regular 20 race 'Iocation and stage Sunday's event on the old Olympiad track. Besides the rain washing out the regular track, it also washed away most of the competi· tion as the total rider turnout was down. The 125cc Pro class was really a four rider contest. In moto one, Tim Lunde (Yam) and Rick Maki (Yam) were the two top contenders out front. Battling for third spot were Andy Northrup (SOP) and Bruce McDougal (Han). There was little close racing and the mota ended with Lunde winning ahead of Maki, Northrup and McDougal. Maki turned the tables in mota two. Lunde led for a couple of laps until Maki realized the overall win was within inches. He got past Lunde and literally bombed away with the win and the overall. Lunde was 1·2 for second. followed by Nonhrup (5-5) and McDougal (4·4). Brian Maloney (Han) played no games in the first 250cc Pro mota one. Maloney led from the drop of the gate to the flag. Chasing Maloney was Yamaha· mounted Jim Domann. On lap four, Domann and Bob Marino (Yam) collided and both riders were out of the competition, but neither were injured. Coming up hard from a eighth place start and a crash was Jeff Jennings (Fra). Jennings was just blitzing by every rider in his path. S. Bannings (Kaw) was the. rider in the vulnerable second place with Mall Devich (Kaw) and Jennings in hot pursuit. On the last lap, Banning stalled his machine and Devich and Jennings got by. With the finish line in sight, Jennings went all out and placed .. second behind Maloney. Devich was third. Again Maloney got the holeshot in mota two, bur this time Jennings did not have to tangle with the rest of the pack. Jennings took lillie time getting his scoot into the lead and just motored away to the win. Marino, after the bad crash in moto one, came back in this mota with a very strong performance and placed second and Maloney was third. Jennings (2-1) won the overall with Maloney (1·5) second and P. Murray (DMG) third. Jennings also rode the Open Pro class aboard the Kelvin Franksprepared four-stroke Honda. Jennings won moto one hands down with some pressure coming from Alan Smith (Hus) and Bob Marino (Yam). Finishing fourth behind Smith and Marino was Maico-mounted Mark Brooks. Moto two turned out to be the deciding ride for Smith. Finishing anywhere ahead of Jennings would give him the overall, and he took it. Smith, by the way is the '79 Open class points leader just ahead of David Gerig. Jennings placed second overall and Marino was third. Results MINI JR: 1. J. McManus (Suz): 2. T. _ G.King(~.
