"'es at Oran,eShow .tadlumMX By Tom Corley SAN BERNARDINO. CA, SEPT. 28 l8nc:I preperes to lend In RAC.E. lICtion at OCIR. and Jim Tarantino, and Pete Snoneland on hU very fast Can-Am. However, Breker's bike siezed early in the fint moto and Reisinger went on to win only to be Itnodted down twice the next moto and finish founh, good for third overall. Snoneland and Gomez weren't paying much attention to other's difficulties as the two riden battled for the overall with the win going to Gomez with a 5-1 score and Snoretland (2·2) settling for second. Chris Heisser rode hU Honda to victory in the 125cc Pro class while other contenders struggled with circumstance. Mike Tripes managed to keep his Yamaha on two wheels and finish second although he looked very tired after having' ridden two classes and third place finisher A.J. Whiting was forced to work his way from last place after a fint lap fall. Gary Denton won the last moto but was out of the money with a 15th placing in the fmt race caused by mechanical failure and Bob Sullivan kept his Suzuki out front until he fell, possibly breaking his left arm. The only action worth noting wasn't provided just by the Pros as top fields of Intermediate and Junior riden contested the event. Close Open Intermediate action saw Mike Corbett put t~ther a 5-1 score on a new Kawasaki 420 Uni-trak and talte the overall win. Wayne Beebe put his Suzuki into the runner-up spot and third went to Gary Manini on a Husky. Results OPEN PRO: 1. Ga.I _ _ lHuo); 2. Bob Morino IV...I; 3. OCIRMX By Tom Corley IRVINE, CA, OCT. 4 The famous motorcross program at Ascot Park just had its season closer so many riders are starting to get involved in a few of the otl1er local night events. The place to be on a Thunday night is at OCIR for the R.A.C.E. motocross event. Tonight a few of the regular Ascot riden were on hand to help improve the competition. Quite a battle went on in the founh race of the evening which was strictly for the 125, 250 .and 500cc Intermediate class riden. They are frred off the gate at separate times but soon enough they get mingled in witl1 one another and this really makes it interesting. Don Gibbons of the 250cc Intermediate class led tl1e large group of riden on hU Yamaha and hooked a pair of fint place wins which gave him the 250cc Intermediate trophy. Bill Boyer (Hon) took second in both motos and finished that way overall. It has been a little while since I have seen Eddie Drake out at the races but thU evening he was in the line-up and ended up third. Bassett rider Lyle Babi is causing a commotion in the 125cc Intermediate class. Lyle is the most consistent rider in this class and should be moving up to the Pro ranks soon. He won the race this time with two sensational moto wins. Randy Ross gave him most of his competition and in the second moto he led for some time till he eventually got passed. Ross mounted up on a fresh new 1980 Suzuki 125 and the bike really looked outstanding. Randy ended up third in the final moto and on the overall list because Danny Bartholomew edged him out for second. Town &. Country rider The Minicycle riders are really increasing in number in the Continental Mota-sports Club stadium motocross program at the Orange shOw Fairgrounds. This track is really well liked by all of the riden and especially so by the Minis because of the tight comers. Tonight there were three different races in the schedule just for the Minis and some excellent battles were seen. One of the finer battles was seen in the Mini Intermediate contest. There were two contestants and both of these riden had to really husale in order to keep ahead of the charging Junion. Apple Valley rider Rodney Phelps (Suz) was pretty well matched against Donnie Sigrist (Yam) of RocItet Rex Ent. Phelps got away with the fmt moto win but found it to be different in the second moto. Sigrist was moving fast in final go and could of won the entire race till his bike pooped out right in front of the scorer's booth. Donnie was disappointed with thU and threw hU bike to the ground. I'm sure that he will win next time tl10ughl Phelps took the win because of this and with two fint place scores he waUted away with the victory. Rich Galatioto blew away the Mini Junior division one class with a pair of fints. Mike Brown won the second division of the Junion. Morino Peterson, lones takes CMC Ascot finale By Tom Corley CARDENA, CA, SEPT. 26 Mter five hot months of racing the Continental Moto-sports Club motocross program came to a close this evening at j.C. Agajanian's Ascot Park. Everyone wanted to race in this season closer and that included all of tl1e very best Proracen. Gary Denton of LOP Racing went after both of the 125 and 250cc Pro classes. In the fint 12Sc:c Pro moto Gary got one of his sensational holeshots and led the fiery pad all the way. Todd Petenon is the usual star of thU c1a1S and it was nice to see him receive some good competition. This time Todd had to settle with second place over ROIl Maeda and Danny Westergaard. It appeared as if Denton was going to go all the way in the second tDotO as well and he led while Peterson waa on his tail. Todd was doing everything poaible to get on by and then he finally made his move. The two of them croweded into a corner just before the TT jump and Peterson spun on by. Todd hooked the Iea
