When they remove the throttle from my cold, dead handl Oct. 27 is a date I'll always remember. So I'll see the rest of you come The 24th of November. DENNY KLAMMER East/West M.C. Wiseco Congratulates 197910BA Champions Given up enough7 Last year I rode the B-to-V Duck Run for the very first time, mainly due to the publicity and air of protest prior to the event. Having ridden most of the B-to-V races in the "old" days, I was under the impression that the trail ride would be rather boring and not much fun. I rode it only out of a sense of frostra tion and a desire to ride with a large group through an area where "they" did not want us. I could not have been more wrong as to the fun. Although there were a lot of straight roads (somewhat boring), the total ride was one of the most enjoyable and fun days I've ever spent on a motorcycle. Some say that a protest of this sort does no good. I think the point is that nothing else does any good at all, and never will. Therefore every man, woman and child owning a bike (dirt or street) should show up this year (street bikes just for the start) or else throwaway any bikes they have and sit home and watch TV for the rest of their natural, boring lives. Our freedom is being taken away bit by bit in all aspects of life (the desert problem is only one small segment). One reason is that as future generations come along, they are not much aware of freedoms already lost. Thus, the youngster of today has little or no idea how it was in the desert, even as little as 10 years ago. Therefore they have no reason to protest; to them it is a "normal" situation. But those of us who have been around know it is not normal. Nearly every freedom we had in the desert has been systematically taken away from us inch by inch, and soon it will all be gone_ A race is being held Thanksgiving weekend and that's fine. I'm sure the people over there went through lots of time, money and effort to put on an alternative. But is it an alternative? We are only forced further away from what should be ours to begin with_ (When will "they" stop Nevada 'desert races?) It is a very sad fact - but one we should face - that there is very little hope left under present circumstances. "They" will get it all, like it or not. So be at Barstow one and all, and protest if only for the sake of protest. It's all that's left to do. KEN NEWTON RamsM.C. Old trail tracker The vainglorious disconcern of the Bureau of Land Management, regarding the six stipulations set forth by the Federal court, is ludicrous. It appears that BLM is not attempting to find a reasonable alte.mative to last year'.s Barstow to Las Vegas trail ride. This earnest motorcyclist would like a cohesive event, in keeping with my sensibilities as a cognizant rider. In lieu of that sanctioned contingency, this rider will attempt to follow a yearold duck's trail, between Barstow and Las Vegas, on Thanksgiving weekend.
