'I NOmERN DATtUNE ~ E Curt Brooks l24p1 and Jace Carter put on a fine show at a new track in Salinas. ,. • try. Chuck Patterson thrashed his way to the 250cc Novice checkered on the Yamaha of Salinas while Mike Cahoon kept it a good close race on the Cycle Stop Honda. Just last weekend, Doug Chandler was enjoying his fim Sportsman races as a Novice but after winning seven out of eight events in TWO races, he was turned over to the Juniors. The 250cc Junior claa is quite com~tive in this district, but it was no big deal for the Kawasaki of Salinas rider. Chandler smoked off the entire lot in both his heat and the main. Keith Day returned from the Pro tour and had it fairly easy in the 250cc Expert after Rick Amaiz pulled off one of the highest wheel stands one can get away with leading off the number TWO corner. With foot back on the Rar brake, Rick got his Champion Honda back in shape to take second over Bill Scott and CunBrooks. Curt Brooks turned right around and came back out on an Astro Bultaco to win the S60cc Expert in front of Jace Carter. Chandler returned to easily win the 500cc Junior over Jack Carter with Franlr. Newman in for third. Gerald Spencer kept everything going in the right direction to win the 500cc Novice and that should be much more than enough points for him to tumJunior. Keitl1 Day was leading the 500cc Experts when he threw his Kawasaki of Salinas TT500 into the number four corner and got higbsided for his efforts. A rather large berm had developed and the impact was so hard that the bike took a 560 degree turn and landed on him about the time he put up a hand to deOeet it and the rear disc Ft quite a cut in his thumb. RIchard Arnaiz. trying out his brand new Champion TT500 built the night before by Mike Macedo, inherited the win despite a close alter· cation with TWO downed riden. Danny Moore took second on the Cal Cycle Supply/ND sparked Champion XR500 and Mike Hayward took his fint pay check and points home with third. Results PEEWEE: 1. PII_lSuzI. 26 80 NOV/JR: 1.
