SOlfander's alcohol Laverda to wm easily 9.72 to 10.06. In the semi, Snyder and McClure faced off, and Snyder got off the line very squirrely, so McClure took the win at 9.27 with 138.24 to Snyder's 9.96 at 153.00. For some reason, Germung never came to the starting Iitie, so Michalouski took an easy solo win. This set up the run for the $500 prize. The final in Super Eliminator. Two free-running Harl.eys were ,l.heeled to the line in the form of Sonny Michalouski and Jim McClure. When the smoke had cleared, and the race was history, Michalo,!ski had shown them why he came all the way out from Syracuse, NY to race. His winning time of 8.94 at 153.84 had put the Virginia rider back on the trailer. McClure was no slo-poke however, at 9.34 with a 138.24. Top Fuel is the one that had the spectators and racers alike talking to themselves. Would it be a Japanese bike? Yamaha was represented by Bernard, Suzuki had Terry Vance with a machine that 'resembled a funny car, and Wayne Davis came up north from Azusa with his extremely quicK Kawasaki. The Harley crowd had a gaggle of choices including Trett, the number one 'qualifier on a double-engined sponster; or Marion Owens from Oklahoma, also on a double Harley; or Pete Hill up from South Carolina astride a blown Knucklehead. You talk about. a lineup of superstars ..... First round action had a diaster as Trett, who had drawn a bye run, couldn't make the call to the line with engine trouble. One hog down. Owens came off the line with a lot of tire shake and couldn't keep from crossing the center line in his race with Steve Morale from Denton, TX. One more hog down. Morale's Harley copped the win with an 8.09 at 165.44. Another hog bit the dust when Bernard's Yammie put it to Hill 8.37 to 9.02. Hill went up in smoke and just couldn't catch the rice-burner. Wayne Davis cleaned up when Jerry Cox's Harley bogged at the line and the Kawie won easily 8.21 with 176.84 to 13.23 at 90.63. Cox had come out from Albuquerque to race in this one. StiJl another Milwaukee bike out of the program. Suzuki was eliminated when Vance had motor problems and couldn't come to the line. The semi suddenly became a final when Bernard's Yamaha broke during fire-up as he was scheduled for a bye run and a sure second place. One riceburner out. This left Davis and Morale toe to toe for the $1000 pot. Harley vs. Kawasaki ... California vs. Texas ... what a .finale. The tree went to green and Davis' Kawie put a fantastic holeshot on the hog. Even though Davis had trouble keeping his beast from drifting off the strip, Morale just couldn't catch him. Davis took it 8.02 at 165.00 to 8.34 at 174.41. This was MMA's first National race and it seemed to come off better than some of the events run by professionals all year long. They will have one final drag race for the year in Sacramento on October 21. This will be a bracket race for trophies~ Probably your last chance to race the old scoot till the. winter's over. • l' ~ $-< Q,) ..0 o ol-l U . .
