managed to overcome the heat to pull
off victories and one of those was
Redlands Suzuki's Danny Burtt who
rode his RM 250 to a 1-2 winning tally
in the Pro class.
In the first moto he came off the line
behind Chris Tarvin (Hon). In third
place off the line was a man known
more for his WTenching in motocross
circles than for his riding, Marty
Smith (Hon). Smith used to tune for
riders such as Rex Staten and Jeff
Ward before he turned in his serewdrivers to go to work in the family
business and try his own hand at
racing on the weekends. He passed
both Burtt and Tarvin by the second
lap, then started to pull a good lead.
Burtt, however, wasn't about to let it
go that easy and soon he too moved
past Tarvin and started pulling away.
Third place was in the hands of Todd
Baldwin (Suz) after Tarvin fell, but a
flat tire moved him back also and let
Mark Reha take over the position on
his Maico. Chris' brother, Clint Tarvin
(Hon). staned coming up strong from
tbe rear and in.the second half of the
race two important battles took shape.
Up front, Stnith was still on top but
Bunt was closing and Tarvin was
behind Reba, trying for third.
Eventually, Bum found the win drop
into his lap .when Smith fell on one of
the final laps; Tarvin was never able to
muster enough extra speed to catch
Reba.
In round two Smith came bad with
the win. His first moto showing of
fifth, however, gave him a second
overall behind Burtt, who remained
the same distance behind Smith
throughout a somewhat uneventful
second moto. Greg Zitterkopf (Mai)
was able to take third over Baldwin
and Reha, but in the final standings
Reha was on top of both Baldwin and
Zitterkopf.
In the 125cc Pro class, Andy
Orescanin of Riverside Suzuki took the
win, although former mini bike ace
Eric Collins (Yam) led most of both
motos. In round one Orescanin
followed Collins for 10 laps before the
heat forced Collins to drop back. Don
Griewe (Suz) also passed Collins in the
fmallaps to take second.
In the next round. however, Collins
