9.54 at 159.85. O'Connor did in
Snyder 8.69-159.85 to 9.10-159.29.
The final was somewhat anticlimactic when Holden came up with a
broken magneto and O'Connor soled
for the win.
The last race of the weekend was a
real ground-thumper. Davis was to
face off with Gleason. Davis fired the
fue!er and it sounded as fierce as a
funny car. Gleason lit the whisperquiet Turbo and burned out halfway
down the strip. Both riden sta~ ever
so carefully and then came the green.
Two di~ shot out of the bole as one
blurred machine. One hundred yards
out and they were spoke to spoke.
Then, littk by little, Davis' monster
started to edge over to the center line
dividing the two lanes. Davis had to
cut the power enough to straighten it
up and Gleason was by for the win,
8.49-165.44 to 9.04-158.00.
Spectator attendance was good and
the number of Pro entries was double
that of last year's race. Dragbilce has
guaranteed a third race for Fremont
next year.
