Dave hung around and even managed to do better in the second moto by pulling up in fmt place. Patterson was in second. and coming in through the mist to take third place, was Powell. Bob Klatt did do some hard riding, working up through the pack and ending up with fourth. E CJ') - l' CJ') I t') ~ ~ Results MASTERS: ..c e EX: 1. ChucIl ~ CSuzI: 2. "-' ~ (yomI; 3. Dicll ~ lMIit. 4. Rhyan ~ the ov....nwin. Alan Smith (Hus) moved up early from fifth to third, finishing just ahead of Pete Wanket (Yam) who moved up to Smith' midway through the moto only to eat it on lap ~n while gassing it on the rain-slicked uphill under the bridge. Dale Anderson (Mai) rode in for futh, but at the stan of moto two, blazed out of the first tum in the lead. Wanket and Rhyan both went by him on lap two, though, and began dicing for the lead. Rhyan slipped past on the downhill the next lap and after that just did what was necessary to maintain his lead and take the overall win. Wanket, Smith and Anderson followed him in to end up in those pasi tions overall. Rhyan looked forward to doing the same trick in the 250cc Pros aboard the Honda· powered , Kelvin Franksframed "Roo," a quick and sanitarylooking piece of equipment. He grabbed the lead right off the bat with Tony Wanket (Yam) sticking close. Rhyan began experiencing problems after a couple laps, however, when the front brake cable staned catching the tire whenever the suspension compressed, putting the brake on in the process. Wanket used the opponunity to snatch the lead, ducking under Rhyan in the horseshoe on lap five. Rhyan didn't let him get out of range, though, and adjusted things a bit, allowing him to charge ahead, catch and repass Wanket after the ledge on lap 10. Riding by himself in third all this time was Robert Reisinger (Kaw) while a ways behind were Tim Lunde (Yam) and Kirk Grissom (Hon). Wanket took the lead at the stan of the second molo. Many Miller (Suz) and Rhyan filled in the next two slots until they hit the uphill where Rhyan pulled a quick switch on Miller and set out after Wanket. The race took an unexpected tum for the Roo rider, though, when the brake cable problems that slowed him in the first moto forced him to pull out after lap three, ending his bid for a perfect four·for-four day. That left Wanket alone with ReiSinger in second, but not a real threat at this point. Things changed. Reisinger stepped up his pace and slowly, steadily inched upon Wanket. By lap eight, he was knocking on Wanket's fender and looking for a way around. On the white flag. Reisinger snuck by. Wanket, however, was not so Willin, . to oblige and when Reisinger went high on a bank after the ledge, he cooly slipped undemeath and accelerated back into the lead. Miller used the last lap to get by Lunde while Grissom did likewise to Jerry Raymer (Yam) for fifth in the moto, founh overall. In the first 125cc Pro moto, Lunde snapped out of the gate in the . lead followed by Scott Johnston (Suz), Rick Johnson (Yam) and Jim Cooke (Kaw). Johnston crashed near the top of the uphill the first lap, though, and dropped from contention. Cooke, riding a pre· production Uni· Trak, startled Johnson by powering by on the uphill on lap two. Johnson regained his composure, though, and passed him back. Johnson then moved up on Lunde and put the move on him the next lap at the top of.abe uphill. Mter that, the race was all his. Cooke kept pace in second, Lunde third and Bun Wald (Hon) fourth in his first I 25cc ride as a Pro. In mota two, Johnson took immediate command of the race. Mter the gate fell, no one even got close to him as he rolled along to an uncontested victory. Cooke and Don Fuller (Suz) went 23 in the moto and overall. Andy Nonhrup (SOP) picked up fouM in the moto while Tim Theodore (SOl) used 6·5 finishes for founh overall. Results Mill JA: 1..... _ CSuzt: 2. John Conney 1V_t. 3. _ Edgor CSuzt. MINI EX: 1.
