Marsh thumps' to OCIRMXwln By Tom Corley IRVINE, CA, AUG. 16 Night racing is starting to look more promising all the time as each and every week the R.A:C.E. event at OCIR keeps getting stronger. The riders are really turning on to the new program and there ar!! several reasons why the response is so great. Tonight the consistent racers brought a few new people into the line-up and beca~ of this they were given either a free entry, or at least half off the price. Several shops have thrown a prize or two into the winnings and one dealer gave a stereo, while another put up $50. The racing action is getting ~ller especially since more Pros' have been showing up due to the 20 minute motos. SCOll Marsh was one of the night's successful riders. He is really 'blowing away the other 500cc Beginner riders and is defeating them on a Norris Carns Honda 500. Marsh had some good competition tonight from Tom Brennan (Hus). Brennan edged out Marsh in the first moto but trailed in the second round. When the promoters handed out the trophies Marsh picked up the easy first place prize. Brennan managed second over Mark Gibbs, Ron - Lingo and Ed Laughey. Micky Dymond is another guy who is an outstanding rider and is winning the 250cc Novice class. Tonight he won the first division over Mark Stroup, who won the first moto but couldn't manage the same position in the second moto. OveraU Dymond had it in the bag over Stroup. Robert Pereira. Ron Drury. Steve Pailloni and Dale Hirsch. Results MINI BEG: 1. Chris S".-ka IKawl; 2. Doug _ins IYaml; 3. Ted Catao ISuzl. . MINIINT: 1. ea.. Odom lSuz); 2. Ken Morten ISuzI; 3. Moik Redding CKaw). The Continental Moto-sports Club had a special Pro points night and cer· tainly some of the top people were on hand. Some of the Pros that have quite a history at this track were involved like Tim Lunde and Ken Zahrt in the 250cc Pro class and Bill Rubly in the 500cc Pros. Luke Messer was there but just spectating. Now if we could get Luxe along with Joe Johnston back in action it would ~ just like old times again. There were 13 riders in the 250cc Pro event. Practice makes perfect as the saying goes and if there is anyone who has a lot of practice on this track it has got to be Tim Lunde. Tim is almost un~atable on this track and proved to be the quickest tonight and won both. motos for the biggest handful of money. He was able to keep a good distance ahead of the famed Ken Zahrt, who is now mounted on a Maico. lahrt was able to keep away from Gary Jones on the Ammex and thOR two rode that way the whole time and finished that way. Honda rider Scott Johnson settled into the fourth place position in front of Donald Draskovich, John Greenway and Randy Rodriguez. While ,the Pro racing was ~lleT than ever, the rest of the program was at its best. The.re were two separate Mini races this time and a lot of die' g was seen in the second event in wh.ch the Mini Intermediate riders went all out. Michael Buchanan is able to win sometimes but this time it was different. He got off to a great start in the fint moto but got psyched out and turned his head. When he did this Denny Fennell on a new Kawasaki screamed by and Skip Godinez, who was also 00 a Kawasaki, did the same within a short while. Buchanan followed those two the whole night while Dean Peterson edged him out in
