Mark Bemes heeds up Greg Zitterkopt in DeAnza 250ee Pro action. 30 In th~ n~xt bout, Guilm~tt~ again jumped into an ~arly I~ad, but onc~' mor~ it was Stout at the ~nd of lap two. This time, however, Guilmett~ managed to hold on to the second spot all. the way to th~ end. Trask was in hot pursuit the whole way, and at one point he ~ven managed to pass Guilmette, only to r~urn the P9Sition on the next lap, Th~ last moto fmishings w~nt Stout, Guilmette, Trask. Scott BaIr.~r (Kaw), Rick Rodgers (Kaw) and Combs. Th~ l!50cc Pro sc~ne had Mark Barnes (Yam) of Barnes Yamaha run away and hide. In both motOS h~ pulled the holeshot and led ~v~ry lap. For Greg Zitterkopf this was his first l!50cc Pro race, although he has had some experience with the Il!5s, and h~ was doing quite well in second place. In sixth plac~ at the end of lap one was Keith Brajovich (Kaw), but a strong drive put him in third by lap fiv~. Brajovich's advanc~ might have gon~ even fan her, but his Kawasaki dev~loped a bad miss in th~ latter half of th~ race so he had to b~ cont~nt with third. In moto two Brajovich got a little better start, and as Barnes ran away again with th~ lead h~ chall~nged Zitt~rkopf and took second. Ov~rall, it was Barn~s, Brajovick, Zitt~rkopf, Scott Smith (Suz) and Don Jackson (Hus). The 250cc Novices w~r~ smoked for . th~ third w~k in a row by K~n Mill~r (Yam) who also rides for Barnes Yamaha. In the first round Rusty Hannah (Suz) push~d Mill~r for th~ I~ad wbil~ Eric B~ing~ss~r (Suz) held third. The s&ond tim~ around it was Dal~ R~am (Hon) who held second while Miller again took th~ win. CA,JULY 29 A week before the F750 road race at Laguna Seta and two weeks after the last National at Sears Point, most of the top teams which usually us~ th~ Am~rican Federation of Motorcyclist road races as practic~ sessions for their machinery didn't show up. Only part of th~ Kal·Gard team and Harry Klinzmann mad~ the trip to Riv~rside Raceway. But it was a very painful day for the newest star of the 250cc class on a ationall~e1; Eddie Lawson. Aft~r a poor start in the 250cc GP race, Lawson was third behind Gennady Luibimsky (Hunt Yam) and Mark Homchick (Phil Schilling Yam) as the trio came into tum six. Lawson lost control of his Yarnaha and flew in the air befor~ hitting th~ guard rail on the outsid~ of the track. His motorcycle followed the same rout~ and finished on top of the injur~d rider. The ambulanc~, which usually sits on the inside of that tum came right away and took him to the hospital, wher~ doctors found a dislocated hip. Lawson, who was scheduled to rac~ the Winston Pro Series shon track in Chicago and the round of the Formula 750 World Championship at Laguna Seca on a Dave Garoutt~ TZ750 Yamaha, will be out for probably six to ni n~ weeks. As the ambulanc~ cr~w was tending to Lawson, Homchick was aft~r Luibimsky in the rac~, which was not int~rrupt~d. Gennady resisted for a f~w la ps before givi ng th~ I~ad to Homchick. Mark crossed the line a bik~length ahead of th~ South San Francisco rider. In the 125cc GP race Jody Nicholas on a S&W Honda MTl25 mad~ his racing com~baclt in a very convincing manner by winning over the Can· Am of Danny C~. Danny had the ~arly lead but by the time the two riders started to lap th~ slower bikes, C~ was caught in traffic, and Nicholas had an ~asier way to victory circle. "I lost my front tire, and Jody had a fantastic rid~," commented Danny later. Th~ Superstreet race was delayed 110 minutes because of an accident in tum two during the first lap which saw two riders down who needed a trip to the hospital. With the first ambulance out aft~r Lawson's crash, AFM officials called for the stop of th~ race. On the restan it was Chuck 'Parme on his Kawasaki and Willi Scheffer (RC En· gineering/GSM/Torco Suzuki GSlOOO) dicing up front with Tom Ballentyn~ third. Wh~n Ballentyn~ dropped off on the fourth of th~ 10 laps, Carry K~oshg~rian and St~v~ Sowden, both on Kawasakis, tri~d during th~ r~maining laps to tak~ his plac~, with Sowden g~tting th~ upper hand at the checker~d flag. But in front the rac~ was settled a lot ~arli~r with Parm~ leading and Sch~ff~r s~ttling for second. . In the Op~n 9P race, Harry Klinzmann on a Mr. AI's Restaurant Yamaha TZ750, cruised to an ~asy victory. . Results SlOE CARS: 1. DunniOavidoon IKaw); 2. Gret1i SmitIl; 3. But once again it wasn't quite as easy as it sounds. Kawasaki-mounted Roben Reisinger was ready to go when the gat~ dropped at the start of moto one'and he bolted out of the hole with John Gr~nway (Hon), Miller and Goat Breker (Hus) following. Everything started to look good for th~ man in green aft~r a N laps as hard luck began to take its . .>11 on the other top runners. Milia crashed, Greenway dropped out of (h~ race with m~chanical troubles and Brek~r was having a hard time adjust· ing to his 250cc Husky because he had just st~pped off a I25'cc in th~ pr~vious race. . About halfway through th~ moto, how~v~r, Br~k~r managed to g~t his act together and ~~l in the l~ad~r, but the ch~ck~red flag came out b~fore he could becom~ a thr~at. Mill~r finished
