was the overall wi'Pler with Hansen

took the win followed by Andy
Jannings and Mark White in third. As
. the gate dropped for the second
round, we saw Donnie Hansen (Kolbe
C-A) taking' die holeshot, the lead,

VALENCIA, CA. JUNE 29
The turnout was very impressive
as over 200 riders showed up to
do battle in the second round of
the American Motocross Enter-
.'
34
prises Summer Series at Indian Dunes.
With a $600 purse being offered to the
Pros tonight and the prizes being
offered by the more than 29 sponsors.
it really pays the riders to show up for
the events.
In the I25cc Pro race DC's Willy
Simons (Yam) took the holeshot and
held the lead all the way followed by
Yamaha Support rider Jim Holley, Ron
Barkn
Honda rider Bob Kline.
Mota two saw the lead going to Holley
with Simons taking second and third
going to AI Baker's FMF-sponsored
John O'Mara (Yam). The overall win
went to Holley with Simons' second.
Third went to Answer Products Suzuki
rider Mark Mdscrop with a 4-5 finish.
In the 250cc Pro class Cole Bros.
Maico rider Andy Jannings led all the
way in the first mota with l.OP
fought motos. At the start of
By Ron Lawson
round one, he was near the rear of the
pack while Craig Dale (Suz) wheelied
away with the lead. Rick Rodgers
(Kaw) held on to second until the. third
lap when both he and Dale dropped
out of the race. From there on in it was
Stout's show. Andy Orescanin (Suz)
moved into second in the following
laps while Greg Zitterkopf (Suz) held
third, making a Suzuki sweep. .
The second time out saw Stout
again in back of the parade and
Rodgers on top. Troy Lee (Suz) took
over on lap two and soon he had a big
lead. making it almost impossible for
Stout, who was in ~ond place on 'the
next lap, to catch up. Lee. finished
with his lead intact and Stout was
satisfied with second, knowing that he
had top money. Lee was second overall
and Orescanin third place showing in
the final moto was good for third
overall.
Phil Thorstensen (Hon) put in his
first race in several weeks in the 250cc
Pro c10ns Friday. He has evidently kept
in practice judging b.J the way he'ran
away from both motos. D.me
Wigington (Kaw) took second after
crashing in mota one while Tim
Criswell (Suz) was third. In mota two,
Wigington didn't go down, but he still
had to settle for second behind
Thorstensen. Billy Saylon (Yam) took
third away from Criswell this time
while Matt Zigeler (Suz) rounded out
the top five.
The 250cc Intermediate class again
fell to Dave Fernandez (Yam).
Fernandez grabbed the early lead of
both motos and built a strong lead.
The Rincon Kawasaki duo of Todd
Schaeffer and Jerry Ebling took second
and third in the first round, but in the
next race. Schaeffer's shadow was red
instead of green as Honda-mounted
Glen Wells took third.
In the .Open Intermediate class,
Don Glover (Yam) took his first win at
Corona, s1amrning both motos over
Michael Hair (Yam) and Ladell Eide
(Suz). Speaking of the Open class, the
Beginners out in force, numbering
many more than usual. Rick Harris
topped them all on his Suzuki fourstroke with a 3-1 performance while
Dave Duke (Suz) went 4-2 for second
and Pete Kinney was third. First moto .
winner Ed Cavanaugh (Yam) didn't
finish the second moto.
