horse trading fair at the Cow Palace,
but after all the iron horse jocks
finished swapping places in the 27man field, the "winnah" was Randy
Church of Carlotta on a Honda.
In the eighth race the 250cc Juniors
were up. Seven racers stepped up;
some raced, some rode, some fell, but
all had a good time with all places
swapped from time to time to finish up
overall with Bill O'Donnell (Mai) of
Santa Rosa numero uno.
The 250cc Experts brought out the
big guns. Danny Dennis from
Middletown, USA, on a Honda,
pulled it all off to win the big bucks
($45) first overall. Second went to
Wayne Rogina, hailing from Ukiah.
Thanks for coming guys when you
could have gone somewhere else.
In the Open Experts, two of the best
racers had a hind go in the middle of
all those 250cc Experts with Ross
Liberty (that's Loss Riberty to his
friends) taking all the money on a
Yamaguichy from Ukiah. An
Burkhart from Redwood Valley didn't
show in the second round.
Twelve Open Novices rode to the
Ledbetter starting gate. Diving into
the first left tum, over the jump, it was
Rory Bartolomei (Su'z) from Ukiah,
and he did it twice to win first overall.
Mark Peterson (Mai) of Santa Rosa,
pulled a three and a two for a second
overall; Ron Sturgeon (Mai) captured
third with teammates, Rick Caldwell
fourth on a Maico, and Dan Sturgeon
(Yam) futh, all from Sebastopol.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, JUNE 9
The Minicycle round-up for the
Grand National Championship
Series began again at Motoqua
State Park and static eagerness
zapped the spectators and the racers
with actionized anticipation.
Brant McCoy (Kaw) found a super
hot line early and stuck some wide
open spaces between his mount and
the rest of the 8!lcc Stock Mini Novice
pack. Ty Johnson (Suz) and John
VanKomen (Suz) knuckled down for a
bar-to-bar ride, while Kevin Sleater
(Yam) lurked behind and waited for
his chance to fly by. The checks
appeared and put the stops on the
moto and the racers retired., to plan
dicing tactics for the next ,heat. McCoy
snatched the holeshot again when the
second moto got underway and
VanKomen and Johnson traveled to
action-land. McCoy ran away with
another good lead while VanKomen
chomped down on second and Johnson
nibbled on third pla~e dust_ A guy can
only take so much of those choking
morsels and Johnson pulled up to nab
second, but VanKomen shut. down
every passing maneuver. Things got
radical on the last lap as Johnson,
knowing that it was now or never, hit
