AME Fathers Day minicyc/e GP By Judy Greenberg VALENCIA, CA,JUNE 10 The day of the AME's American Minicycle Associations Fathers Day Grand Prix, temperatures soared well over the 100· mark, Louie Franco (CRF) holeshot for the 85cc Stock Expens and ran strong in front until U.S. Yamaha rider Erik Kehoe took over before the end of the fint lap. George Holland of R&D Racing put pressure on Kehoe, and toolr. over when Kehoe took a spill at the tower. Out in the sand, Kehoe c10l1Cd in on Holland and reclaimed the lead which he held to the end. Holland finished second and Franco third. Rudy Dickinson (R&D) was well in - control of the 8!1cc Stock Intermediates, as he battled fint with SCOtt Marrison, and then Terry Hampton, after Marrison spun out at the tower. With the moto past the halfway mark, Dickinson went down in a sand comer and decided not to finish. Hampton took over to win, as positions changed behind him, with fine performances by :rom Stout, Andy Ellis, David Seekins and Roben Laughlin. The Rincon Raiden from Rincon Kawasaki were well represented, taking borne their share of the three· foot fint place trophies. Otis Cecil and Joseph Rincon took fint and second for the 85cc Stock 12 and over Junion, and second and third in the Modified class behind Mark Harwell. Jason Rincon toolr. the bonon for the Stock and Modified '·11 85cc Junion, with R&D's Todd Parker in second, and Rincon teammate Roger Ebling in third, for Modified. Fathen and sons ran a 20·minute team race, with changeover every lap. Pit action was tops as the better riding sons saw their chances doomed by their slower dads. Mothen gave fint aid during the dads' lap layover. Jaime and John Pena won the Junior Cycle class over Rick and Nap Dumo and Roben and Ron Paugh. Bob and Ron Caldwell were evenly matched for the 8!1cc class, with the Rodriguezes and Seekins not far behind.
