The 12-16 Mini Juniors were in great form, with the top class being the Modified class where first-time visitor Doug O'Donnell grabbed a hard fought overall with a 1-2 finish over Mike West who had a 4-1 go to ed~ Ami Lemon's 2-5 effon. Mike West had the biggest day of his career at Barona as in addition to the second place in the Modifieds, he went two for two in the Stock class in a close one over Roben Howell. Both West and Howell were Kawasaki-mounted. All of the Motorcycle classes were very competitive as the light mist that fell intermittently throughout the day kept the Barona Oaks course in even better than ever condition: nice and loose and damp. Woody Carlson grabbed a squeaker in the 125cc Intermediates over Lloyd Thomas and new Intermediate Gary Rodriquez. Thomas had the win in the second moto, but· the third in the first go 'round did him in for the overall, although a hard charging Rodriques almost gave a tie-breaker win to Lloyd as he was right with Carlson in the second moto.. Rodriques, however, came back for a tie-breaker win in the Modified class for a win over Mike Monsequr. Racing returns to Barona Oaks on June 5, with only two more races left before the big two-day NMA National onJune 50 and July 1. MOO EX: 1. Ronnie Lechien (R&D Suzl; 2. R_d (~; 3. Old TImers heat up Saddleback By Bob Alloy Results ORANGE, CA, MAY 13 lIOcc MINICVCLf CLASSES STOCK EX: 1. Ronnie Lochien (R&D Suzl: 2. David Hoowood IKaw); 3. LJovd Thomas IKawI. A gas shortage and other calamities just couldn't keep 33 deter- mined, dedicated, but mostly die-hard Old Timers away from what is a necessity of life - MX, The temperature at Saddleback was just about 100a and a truly hot time was had by us all. To get things moving, all classes of Old Timers took off at the same time in a two wave stan. Jim Beltinck of the Masters division flew around the track, taking first in both motos. Marshall Jennings, another excellent rider, took second in both motos. It is always a great pleasure to watch either of these riders. Really blasting .away in the Senior Expens. was Ken Williams. He took moto one with great style. Ray Sanchez didn't have a good start but soon overcame all and finished second place, with Cal Browning in third. Ken Williams took the holeshot in the second moto, but Sanchez put his Yamaha out in front and kept it right there for the win. Williams followed Ray in for second and following' Ken was our Line Steward, Dick Frampton. Norm Elledge wrapped up the Expert division by coming in first in both motos. Chuck Strauss, showing lots of style, came in second for the first moto. Taking third place honors was Ed Scheidler. Moto two saw Scheidler taking the second place win and Bob Berdyck winning third. Bill Lyons set the pace for the Amateurs in the first moto. He quic~y got out there and did some excellent riding and took first place. Joe Bray and his Maico were there for second, and claiming third place was Geo~ Spearing, Moto two saw Joe Bray taking the lead, the race and the overall win, Ben Harwell worked his way up to take second and Spearing c.ame in third. Dave Collins will- soon be an Amateur if he keeps riding as well as he did this time. He took first in both motos of the Novice division. Wayne Powell and his new automatic Husky were well made for each other, and it seems that no adjustments are necessary, Wayne just rode out there and took second place in both motos. Larry. Hughlet took third place in moto one. Really moving out for the third place win in the second moto was John Turdo: Results MASTERS: 1. Jim _ lMail: 2. _ I Jennings (Suzl. SR EX: 1.
