Greg Waldrup put ~is Yamaha into the front of the flTSt 250cc Pro race, but prQ.blems caused him to bow out of the contest, letting Danny Jean take over the front to win. Dave Behlings got a back of the pack start, but bore down on his Suzuki moving himself into the second place position in just a few quick laps. For several tours It w~ a dice between Jean and Behlings as they pul1ed a half lap lead on the rest, but misfortune hit Behlings as he snagged a rear f1a:t which caused him to slowly back down and eventuany let both Mike Brown and Greg Weaver by. In the second 250cc Pro race Behlings made his comeback. Danny Jean got the holeshot again and ran the front for the first four laps on his Redlands Suzuki, but Behlings put it to him this time and captured the lead to win the race. jean stil1 went home first overal1. Behlings made second his pay for the day and Mike Brown wound out his day in third. Results OPEN PRO: 1. Richord IIIInd eMail; 2. Frri Steiner CSuzl; 3. Tom Miller eSuzl. in the Beginner class and the fact that his left hand was missing didn't hamper his speed or talent in.any way. The last race of t"e day was the 81200cc machines. Robert Pfeuing, an Amateur who rides for Fullerton Yamaha, claimed the overall win. However, Experts Jimmy OdIe and Fred Combs made him work for it. Odie, who has an impressive win record, didn't get his Escondido Suzuki off the line with everyone else. By the last lap he had joined the heavy sparring going on between Combs and Pfeuing. Odie passed Combs then misinterpreted a fan's number one signal to mean he had the lead. He relaxed, thinking the win was his and was struck with disbelief when Pfetzing got the checkered. Maben, Jean, Bland roost CRC RacIng World MX By Keith Clemons . 48 TRABUCO CANYON, CA, MAY 20 With a gray day to counter last Sunday's summer heat, and cool temperature making the racing more enjoyable, the mighty moto masters of California Racinjt elub clamored out to Racing World for a do it in the dirt day, motocross style. If an award were given to the penon who came the farthest just to race, then the winner would have to be Grant Maben. Maben hails from Transvaal, South Africa, where he was a three time 125cc National champ. His reason for-eoming to the U.S. is to further his racing career. Since they don't give awards Jor long distance travel, Maben (Hon) had to make his claim to fame by winning the 125cc Pro race, which he did holeshot to checkered flag both times around, taking ·the overall money. Ted Hoyt rode his'Tour N' Trail-sponsored Yamaha in second both races to finish second overall. Rich Bland pulled the big victory in the Open Pro race. Tom Miller got the first moto holeshot but overshot a turn and stal1ed. Unable to ·kick start he finally pushed his Canoga Park Suzuki down a hil1 ~o pop it but by the time he got goinl again he had dropped to last pla«, but he worked up to fourth in the moto.
