the first race fourth off the line but,
like Miller, also bounced off a berm
and killed his bike. Frank Steiner and
Bob Root were running out front but
Bland climbed back aboard his Simi
Valley Maico in time to catch and pass
them both taking over the front to
win. Steiner fmished second follQwed
by Root.
Rich Blank walked away with the
second race. gunning it from the hole
to the finish without interference to
collect top pay in Open Pr.o class.
Steiner finished third, good for second
overall for his Anaheim Suzuki
sponsors, while MilleT took third
overal1.
Greg Waldrup put ~is Yamaha into
the front of the flTSt 250cc Pro race,
but prQ.blems caused him to bow out of
the contest, letting Danny Jean take
over the front to win. Dave Behlings
got a back of the pack start, but bore
down on his Suzuki moving himself
into the second place position in just a
few quick laps. For several tours It w~
a dice between Jean and Behlings as
they pul1ed a half lap lead on the rest,
but misfortune hit Behlings as he
snagged a rear f1a:t which caused him
to slowly back down and eventuany let
both Mike Brown and Greg Weaver
by.
In the second 250cc Pro race
Behlings made his comeback. Danny
Jean got the holeshot again and ran
the front for the first four laps on his
Redlands Suzuki, but Behlings put it
to him this time and captured the lead
to win the race. jean stil1 went home
first overal1. Behlings made second his
pay for the day and Mike Brown
wound out his day in third.

in the Beginner class and the fact that
his left hand was missing didn't
hamper his speed or talent in.any way.
The last race of t"e day was the 81200cc machines. Robert Pfeuing, an
Amateur who rides for Fullerton
Yamaha, claimed the overall win.
However, Experts Jimmy OdIe and
Fred Combs made him work for it.
Odie, who has an impressive win
record, didn't get his Escondido
Suzuki off the line with everyone else.
By the last lap he had joined the heavy
sparring going on between Combs and
Pfeuing. Odie passed Combs then
misinterpreted a fan's number one
signal to mean he had the lead. He
relaxed, thinking the win was his and
was struck with disbelief when Pfetzing
got the checkered.
Official results pending.

a three time 125cc National champ.
His reason for-eoming to the U.S. is to
further his racing career. Since they
don't give awards Jor long distance
travel, Maben (Hon) had to make his
claim to fame by winning the 125cc
Pro race, which he did holeshot to
checkered flag both times around,
taking ·the overall money. Ted Hoyt
rode his'Tour N' Trail-sponsored
Yamaha in second both races to finish
second overall.
Rich Bland pulled the big victory in
the Open Pro race. Tom Miller got the
first moto holeshot but overshot a turn
and stal1ed. Unable to ·kick start he
finally pushed his Canoga Park Suzuki
down a hil1 ~o pop it but by the time he
got goinl again he had dropped to last
pla«, but he worked up to fourth in
the moto. Bland, meanwhile, started
