.. 72 .64 mph , to Ditmars' 16 .30, jumping out. Try that in your V.W . Bracket Six lined Tufts up with Fernandez. You could tell that Tufts had done this before by his holeshor. clobbering Fernandez, 14.36 to 15.39. Bracket Five may have had the closest finish of the day . Seemingly, both riders got there at the same time, however, the electronic eyes showed that Puckett's " Duck" tripped the timer first, ni pping Felipe 13.35 to 13.77. In the Bra cket Four fin al , Fisher took Knell , 12.73 to a losing 13 .15 ~ In the Bracket Three last run of the day, both Hillis and Clark had good starts, but the Kaw couldn't overtake the Suzuki; Clark won with a 12.50 to 12.20. Hillis, wit h a 12.30 dial in would have jumped out anyhow . In Bra cket Two, Olivera came out on the wheelie ba rs and led all the way as he whipped Mike McKillip's Harley, 11. 72 to 11.52. McKillip ha d singled in the semis . The big one of the afternoon brought out Kawasaki mounted Terry Henry, a Bay Area favorite , and Leonard Andrews, on a Harley, from Chatsworth. When the tree went to green, Henry put a "Gra nd daddy" holeshot on Andrews with an amazing 9.49 to the loser's 12.53. After the MMA trorhy muffin had distributed the last 0 the gold, and the last beer can had been policed up , Ron Roloff, and Phil Olivas of the MMA finally sat down . In spite of the small turnout , they were looking forward to the next drag race for bikers at Sacramento. This one will be on July 22. If you've been wanting to know just how fast your scoot really is, bring it on out .. . Waxham, Ferraro, Wood top Experts at ~rgyll Park By ~huck Woodbury DI XON , CA, MAY 6 Dave Wood designed a very tight. slow course for Bu el Campbell's CMC mo tocross a t Argyll Pa rk . "All the races arou nd here have been real fast lately," said Wood, a 250cc and Open Expert rider from neaby Vacaville. "I thought everybody would appreciateoa slow course for a change." • Nobody appreciated it more than Wood , who claimed he didn't design the course to his own preferences. The Yamaha-mounted rider rocketed his way around the mile long course to two runaway moto victories in Open Expert competition. But Wood and his company of Open Expert riders had to wait for nine motos before they got their chance to race. The 250cc Experts were the first Pros up on this unusually brisk Spring day. Jim Inglebright (Mai) holeshot the first moto, but Danny Turner (Kaw) rammed his KX250 into first place immediately afterwards and that was all the rest of the 21·rider field saw of Turner's lime -green two wheeler. By the third la p Turner had a foursecond lead over second place Dave Coupe (Suz) and every lap thereafter he in creased his margin. Coupe was meanwhile feelirig the heat of Dirt Werkes·sponsored Don Ferraro (Suz). For several laps the d uo mixed it u p . won. Coupe settled Fer r aro comfortably into third place and the order held to the finish. Inglebright holeshot the second ~ moto and once again it was Turner following. Soon after , during the fourth lap , Turner had his first bad break of the day; his chain came off and he was forced to retire. Inglebright maintained his lead for only a few moments more until Pat Wilson (Hon) and Ferraro jetted past to assume the 'One, two positions. Wilson's lead was sh or t -lived as Ferraro moved to first place during the eighth lap of the 14 lap, 30·minute, moto. At the finish line it was Wilson and Inglebright taking second and third places. The l25cc Experts were up next and once again it was Ferraro up front. Turner, riding a borrowed Suzuki after his Kawasaki developed lastminute ignition problems, once again had bad luck . After t h rea tening Ferraro for several laps he succum bed to mechanical pro blems and headed for the pits: Dana Waxham tailed Fer r a ro o n his Gene's Automotive Suzuki and almost took the lead at the finish line. Mark Fortin (Suz) finished third . . Turner knocked off Bra d ley Harrison (Kaw) in the second moto for the lead, and after that, with some good luck for a change, he breezed to the win . Waxham rode a very comfortable second place throughout the moto. Ferraro pulled in third, 13 seconds behind second - place Waxham . With his two second place finishes . Waxham captured the overall win . It was cold and windy as the Open Experts came to the line for thei r first moto. Unless you were a member of the Dave Wood fan club, both the first and second motos were boring. Real boring. Wood jumped to first place immedi ately in the first moto and by the end of the first lap the outcome was predictable. The only excitement in the moto came from second/ third place contests between lnglebright and Bill Swartz (Mai) and Randy Chapman and Swartz. Chapman eventually won, finishing 'lO seconds behind Wood at the checkers. Rain turned the dry course wet as the second O pen Expert m oto got underway. The holeshot went to Dave Woodall (Mai) with Swartz and Wood following. By lap three Wood claimed the lead and he never looked back. Swartz played follow the leader in second and Chapman settled his Maico back into a very comfortable, unthreatened third place. Joe McCremmer and Ma rk Palmer, both on Hondas , provided some excellent entertainment in the second 250cc Intermediate moto . McCremmer won the first round but he got off to a bad start in the second. Beau Magley (Yam) held the lead through most of the second moto but soon both Palmer and McCrernmer. flashed by to fight it out in the fina l two loops around the track. Palmer held a slim lead at the white flag, but as the riders crossed the finish line it was McCremmer claiming the victory . . Larry Coleman (Hus) won both 250cc Novice motos to take the overall in that class. Greg Bonivich (Yam) kept the pressure on him for both rnotos and took second place finishes. After a fourth place finish in the first 125cc Novice round, Yamahamounted Richard Collin came back with an im pressive second moto victory for the overall trophy.
