Ya maha International West. With 28 hotshot riders going for it . the fences were lined with fans . Troy Folck (M ·X Fox) grabbed the start and held it for six of the 12 laps. Burgett was 10th by the line for the ' first lap. Gregson was eighth and Michletsch was third. Putting on a race that could only be seen to believe. spectators were 'gi ven a super treat. With moves learned only on the National trail and super overall ability, the top three did everything but go sideways to pass and repass each other . T he first 250cc Pro moto ended with Bu rgett in fro nt . G regson second and Michletsch third . Tom Po a g e . Olym pic Yamaha . came u p with a fourth wh ile Allen Pit ts (Suz) got the fift h place d istin ction . Troy Folck faded to sixth the first moto. T he second m OIO saw Burgett get a lit tle better sta rt, go ing by the finish line in fift h spot the firs t lap. By mote's end . and a fter a his tori cal battle with Mich letseh a nd Gregso n , he p ulled a 1-1 day for firs t overall . Gregson was seco nds away for a 2·2 while Mic hletsch finished u p with a 3· 3 day. Tom Poage had perfect fours for that place in the overall. The O pen Pro class lined up with perfect track conditions awaiting. Tim Michletseh (Yam) had it in his mind to do in this class what he hadn't been able to do earlier. Well . he had a little help from the gremlin department. Burgett got behind. had mechanical . problems, and DNF. Bu t Tom Poage (Yam) was still ' around ; he got on Tim's tail and stuck like glue. Chris Washburn . Hillsboro Suzuki. ran like stink to tandem the leaders .and the fun wason. Michletsch won it with perfect ones and Poage rode to a pair of twos . CA , MAY 11·13 Valley Racing Association clubs hosted a three day short track show during Mother's Day week end under .I)..ot, sunny NorCal skies . Four hundred ten racers braved lengthy gas' line and 100 degree temperatures to compete for plate points , trophies . and money. Several outstanding performances were turned in by various competitors over the three day span. Boss .Fra me;; Junior Pat Seigle won every 250cc Junior main event for the weekend and also nailed two out of th ree 360cc mains. His 26 points should move Pat into the Expert ranks for the next series. Expected to also advance a class based on this weekend's action are Dannv Malfatti , aboard the Armstrong Cycle Works Honda . and Sa n Jose's Bla ir Newell in the 250cc ranks . Danny gained two 360cc seconds behind Seigle while Newell grabbed a second a nd fou rt h. Expert racers sh a red the cash this weekend as classes were grabbe d by seven differe nt r iders. Mc GilI 's Ya maha ri der Ma rk Key aced the 250cc Experts Fri day a nd the 500cc class Saturday. while j ackson's Da vid Boyles bea t a large 250cc contingent Saturday. Za ka r ia n 's man Dwayne McCaslin bested the 360cc class at both Lod i's while Dennis Huff came out of retirement to outride the class on the cushion at Oakdale Sunday. Kim Jorgensen - suffering from some bad breaks and an off ride at Loot blasted the 250cc's aboard the Boss Can -Am Sunday. and another oldtimer Dale Mathers eased by the 500cc crew onthe "cush." In the Mini ranks Manteca's Kevin Brieker returned after a short .layoff and finish ed second behind Gary Cummings Friday and then won both 80cc Novice mains the rest of the weekend . The Chandler brothers. Doug and Kurt . dominated Mini Expert action . . winning two of three mains each. Doug aced Chris Carr in LOOi's opener and at Pioneer with Chris dialing the jorgy's Suzuki for an exciting victory Saturday. Unofficial timer Andy Gariba ld i clocked bo th riders under 15;40 consistent ly with Carr turning a fast 15 ; 15 while catching the fast Salinas Kawasaki KX 80 . Young' Ku rt , mea nwhile . aced the ' 100cc Expert crowd two out of three with Va nce Sherfield - back from an injury rest - grabbing the seconds'. Vance took the Oakdale win Sunday ahead of Kurt. Plate point action will continue all summer with only a few points - eight. to be exact - separating the top three Mini Experts while action is also closing as the tough part of tile year approaches for sportsm a n riders.
