Van der Ven came through in devastati ng sty le and ousted Laquaye from a hot ly disputed sixth spot before the curly-headed Belgian flipped the SWM with four laps left. remounting to finish a plucky 15t h . Carlqvist drove smoothly ho me with five seco nds to spare over the dogged Moiseev, followed d istantly by Wilken , Hudson and van der Ven, with a ragged Kavinov hanging on grimly in front of th e ch a rgi ng Velthoven , whose eventfu l ra ce ca me to a premature end when the KTM shed it's ch ain two bends from the finish . Carlqvist led the second moto aw ay from Moisecv, Wilken a nd Hudson . Fa lta dropped his CZ in th e first bend , taking out Laquaye , who had 10 retire with bent hars on the SWM , whi le th e Czech oslovakian restarted dead last , Hudson drove under Wilken aft er 'fifteen minutes a nd bega n to exert pr essure on Moisecv until a nasty tan ksla p per on one of th e fast . rippled straights put an end 10 his challenge. Semmens. su fferi ng some clutch slip, was pushed back into tenth place by Erik Sundstrom , while Jim Pomeroy , ha ving been delayed in the first corner fra cas , was gobbling up pla ces as mercurial speed during the opening laps until he attempted a n ambitious cut inside Hooper. He succeeded onl y in loc king up the Bultaco, which hit a trackside tree before rebounding in to the unfortunate Englishman and bringing him off. Carlqvist remained imperturbably poised ten seconds clear of the field , while his gritty Russia n chaser was caught and passed. to the crowd's ob vious delight. by van der Ven , and Hudson was retaken byWilken. Karsma kers , thoroughly enjoying his temporary return to GP racing. had crashed on lap two . b ut recovered flambouyantly and caught Hans Maisch before the oil line to the Yamaha's monoshock sna pped five laps from ho me and forced his retiremenl o • Results Marty Moates twisted his knee In the opening moto and. rather than risk further injury. he retired. APR . 22 Haka n Carlq vist , Sweden's brilliant new motocross supre m o, consolidated his lead in th e 250cc MX World Champion- Jim Pomeroy (right! made a valiant charge through traffic from the back of the pack in the second mota only to crash hard and end his chances of a top placing. 14 ship with two pulverising wins beneath a blustery sky near Lichtenvoorde, Holland. The Husqvarna ac e now leads England's Neil Hudson by a substan tial twenty-seven po int s after two rounds . lea ving the modest Mai co pilot three points clear of re ign ing cha m pion, KTM's Gennady Moiseev , following two heroically co ntested con frontations in the strength -sapping Dut ch sand dunes. American rid ers Jim Pomeroy, Marty Moates' and J im T urner had a disasterous day with Turner refused a sta rt. Moates retiring in the first moto with a knee injury. and Pomeroy seizing an engine in th e opening moro a nd crashing in the second while put ting in a brilliant cba rge .
