He pi ck ed himself up . got re -started a bout 25 places behind th e leader . and pu t on a ve ry healthy c ha rge u p t o ei g h t h before the fin ish . H is fourth and eight h were good eno ugh for a fifth overa ll. T h at 's a lot better th an the bike's owne r did in h is race (bu t I'd better not go into that). By th e time the 125cc Novi ce II class got into their secon d m ot o there were o n ly a handful of spectato rs st ill watching. The program was reversed so th ese guys got th e last rac e of the day a nd the weather wa s beginning to look bad. Those wh o d id st ay however . go t to see o ne of the best races of the d ay. The first moto had see n a number of lead changes. ca used m ostl y by heavy throttle usage on th e off-cam be r turns. Mark Duval ch arged in to th e lead o n the second lap but lost it to Bart Carrigan (H on) who kept the lead the rest of the wa y. Carrigan had to fight off Pat Schultz (Suz ) wh o held the p ressure on every inch of the way. Duval picked up third afte r Randy McGinnis (Su z) had off-camber turn problems . The second m oto saw Duval take the lead fro m th e first turn and begin a runaway victory . T he real b attle was for second place bet ween Carrig a n and Schultz. Ca rrigan was once again ahea d of the hard-charging Schultz and th e two put on a su per d ice. With the wh it e fla g flapp ing across the finis h line . Schultz decided it was now o r never. He got by Carrigan o n the last lap to fin ish seco n d in the m ot o and second overa ll. Duval ca p tured the overall win with h is fir st a nd th ird place fini shes. Results OLD TIMERS: 1. High point battles continue at Lodi By Ann Carr LOD! , CA. APR. 21 Flattrackers looking for season high-point and plate awards re turned to the one-fifth mile blue groove oval at Lodi Cycle Bowl , following a break for the Sacramento Mile last Saturday. Kim J orgensen's Boss framed Can Am and the McGill's Yamaha of Mark Key moved in to commanding leads for Lodi season money in the 250 cc and 500cc Expert classes. R ichard Arnaiz look ed devas tating in pract ice sessions but be came entangled in traffic in th e 250 cc m ain . Jorgy di a led th e start a nd mov ed to the front fr om th e green for a re la tively easy win and th e seaso n poi nt lead. Arnaiz maneu vered his Cha m pion Can -Am through traffi c for seco nd with Key a nd G a be Bu rrol a nailing down third and fo u rt h spots in a hotl y co ntested ba tt le. Key. a former Min i ace . retu rn ed to settle th e 500cc fray wit h a victory over the S & K Yamaha of Bill Scott and Salinas rider Curt Brooks. Ma rk 's thir d 500cc win th is season na iled d own the head start on po int m on ey as well as in ching h im up in the Bla ck and Gold Plate sta ndi ngs . Act ion was especially clos e in the 250cc Junior and 360cc Expert m ai ns. Antioch's j on Eich elbaugh sa iled away for th e 250cc win whi le action in the pa ck wa s hot and h ea vy . Pa t Seigle, a nd Danny Moore tri ed to fin d a way around each other in eve ry co rner with Dickerson 's Kaw , Seigl e's Boss Yam aha . a n d Moore's Cal Cycle Yamaha finish in g in tha t order. Kn ight's PDV experienced hesi ta tions down the straight and Dwa yn e's Zakarian Bultaco as well as J ohnny's tried all their tricks to pass the former Mini plate rider . J oe 's experience enabled him to hold a tight lin e and retain second over McCaslin. Kurt returned to capture the IOOcc Expert m a in over Steve Mitchell wh o again su ffered from offici a ti ng erro rs; th e blue flag was di splayed too la te to prevent a slower rider fr om ta ki ng h im ou t a fter lead ing for six laps. Eric Green took third for his first placi ng thi s season.
