Although this weekend's Continental Motosports club Saddleback co ntest was not a points ra ce for th e Pros, t he overall number of ent ra nts was still low, about 170. Low turn out o r n o t , t h e com pe tition at CM C Saddleback is alw ays hig h class. Scott Bu rnworth (Su z) and Mike T ripes (Suz) were first to crest the chu te and mak e tra cks on the well prepared course in th e first 125cc P ro moto , Burnworth wa s running extremel y fast whe n , on th e third lap, he had a specta cu la r end -ove r-end crash on th e ba ck double jump. Trip es took the lead while Burnworth lay motionless on t he sid e of the course. While T rip es see med to be running awa y with the show, CMC Number One 125cc rider T ony Gomez (Su z), R ick Johnson ( Yam ) and Craig Dale (Suz) were in a hea ted battle for second . On one turn . Dal e mov ed to second SpOl and im mediately crashed 10 a llow J ohnson and Gomez back in th e 2-3 slots. As the moto came to a close a nd Trip es' na me was a lmos t wri tt en in the history books , he threw the cha in on h is Su zuk i onl y th ree corners from th e fini sh . He was outl This gave Johnson th e win , with Da le se co n d , Gomez third and hard charging Da vid Gerig (Suz) fourth. As the hea vy fog lift ed , the second moto of 125cc Pros got underway. Burnwonh had glue d himself back together and a imed his scoot for the first tum . At 'the firs t swee per. he again met T ripes , Johnson , Dale and, Gerig. Tripes snuck to the inside and grabbed a slight lead over the pa ck . For eight laps , the top six positions were less than a bike apart. Moro one winner Johnson was runnin g sixth and slipped past. Mike Toycen (Ya m) and pursued Gerig . At th e jump just after the scoring sta n d , T ripes got a little too much lift off t he ju m p and Burnworth shot int o th e lead.
