The p its were located at t he usu al Hobo sit e , just two m iles north of Soggy Dry Lake on t ha t very well kno wn , rough din road. W hen the first riders hit t he trail at 8 :00 a .m. , over 700 other eager tro phy-bou nd entrants were to follow. This yea r's overall win ne r was Don Mc Namee, who completed the 100 m iles while only dropping 2 1 seconds . McNamee topped the O pen B over l}5 class wh ich was a fe a t in itse lf, outseoring all t he A rid ers. The firs t A rid er finished only one second behind McNamee . Ken Cater dropped only 22 seco nds over the three loops and rode O pen A. Finishi ng third overa ll was Don Brackroy. O pen B . who lost 30 secon ds . T he third loop mad e a bee-line directly east towa rds the foothills for some all -ou t ridge running. The times and the speeds were difficult but not im possib le . One unusual facto r in this year's Hobo 100 was after fin ishing th e three loops , everyone's score ca rd had 13 ch•-cks m a rked. Tha t' s a lot! After cres ti ng one of th e m any hills. the rid ers fou nd th emse lves on that fa mous Ho bo goat trail. Most riders had to bulldog their mach ines down the narrow lin e rather t ha n ridi ~g' J _them . T o make things even mo re d ifficu lt, a second goat tra il was em ployed that was twice as hard to negotiate . Aft e r all the sweat and the grime. the th ird loop ended to round ou t the 100 miles. Mark Corbin, 250cc C , was the overa ll two loop winner, only losing an incredib le 10 seconds over 70 m iles. T here was a tie for the overall win in the O pen C class for two loopers. Steve B lo ck e r and Chris Kie1ick b ot h dropped 12 seco nds wh ile Robert Clark , 250 cc C , lost 20 seconds and placed fou rt h overall a nd second in the 250 C class. Loops one and two a re relatively the sa me. Both loo ps meandered th roug h the foothills wit h the main emphas is on tim ekeeping . Loop two d id incl ude some slight hills a nd rocks but nothing that was unheard of. Loop one was fa ir ly fla t and a very enjoyable ride , but no t for fa m ily end u ro. Ky Klieber a nd Brian H ill ended up tied for the loo p one honors . Kliebe r was firs t Min i a nd Hill was firs t 200cc C under 16 . Both ri ders lost only on e second over the 32 ·mile loop.
