Sikorski and KTM rid er Kevin Da vis battled for third plac e to th e checkers with th e nod goi ng to Da vis after Siko rski overshot the last turn before the fin ish . Pat Mulchay, away from racing for a couple of yea rs. showed the you ng chargers he still has what it takes to go fast . finishing fifth overall , first 250cc Amateur. Sportsman Cycle Husky riders also cleaned up in the Open Expert races. Butch Laswell preserved for the win on co urse one. LeRoy Kyger pulled a big holeshot on his 400cc Yamaha but later in the race , bailed heavily resu lting in a DNF. Kyge r had a disastrous day that started going bad when his bike didn't arrive in time for the first race. On the right day Kyger can put it on anybody, unfortunately these insta nces are few and far between. J ack Johnson took over t he lead after Kyger crashed and was ro bbed of a sure win by a flat tire. Laswell was circulating smooth and fast and is usually the rider that wins when one of the big guns break down or doesn't show at a race. Laswell took the checkered flag in front of hard charging Kev in Welch on the surprising Can -Am and Mel Chapman (older brother of 125cc ace Marv Chapman) on a Yamaha. Things got back to normal on course two as Husky's dynamic duo of Jack Johnson and Scott Harden finished 1-2. Kevin Welch and Mel Chapman continued their day-long. dice with Welch besting Chapman for third place honors. A big thanks to the Groundshakers M.C .: Casey Folks, J r. , Chuck Rush , Montie Gerber. Alvarez SEA RCHLIGHT, NV , APR . 8 "Movin" Marv C ha pm a n , on a Motorcycle Tire Center Suzuki. roosted the pack in both legs of the 125cc Expert event in the Groundshakers M .C . Motorcycle Ra cing Association of Nevada seventh annua l Back-to -Back European scrambles. The Groundsha kers laid out two courses with one connecting starting area . The riders lined up back -to-hack for the LeMans stan. When _ the banner dropped the racers ran in opposi te d ir ections to th eir wa itin g mounts , fr antically fired th em up and took off for the ir hour's worth of ra cing on th eir respective cou rses. When they finished their first race they had about an hour and a half down time , th en they went back , lined up in the opposite di rection for th e other course and did it all over again . Course one featured a stee p , rock y uphill that was just past the start and lined with waving spectators flashing va rious gas -it signs. Further down the • trail where numerous whoop-de-doo sandwashes , a long, dusty road and a .cou p le of iron-grid cow -catchers to cross - moo! Course two was mostly you r flat -out , bumpy , o n e -line trai l with the dreaded , rocky, uphill-downhill section and of co urse th ere was the cross -grain washout stuff that threw many Junior riders over the bars. Marv Chapma n holeshot both sta rts of the 125cc ra ces and was never seriously cha llenged in either event. Marvin is definitely the class 125cc racer in th e northern Ne vada area .
