Bauer boogies at CoronaMX By Ron Lawson CORO NA, CA, MAR . 30 DG's Steve Bauer (Yam) proved once again that he can win at Corona Raceway with his eyes closed , even against the toughest competition . Last Friday it was CMC's win ningest rider, Tim Lunde (Yam) . who put in a strong win in round one , onl y to follow Bauer in the tie breaking final rnoto, Bauer got the early lead ,in the first moto with Lunde right on his tail and the two of th em imm ed ia tely launched into battle. On the seco nd lap , however , Lunde lost som e valuable time as he drifted wide in a turn and encou nt ered some deep mud . Bauer stretched his lead and until the fourth lap, Lunde could make up no time. But then it was Bauer's turn to blow it and in a n uphill turn he laid his Yamaha down : allowing not only Lunde to get by, but Ted Ho yt (Yam) as well. He go t up in time to salvage third place and spent most of the rest of the race making up time . It wasn't until the very last that he ca ugh t and passed Hoyt for second place. Randy Fleming finished fourth on his Suzuki. The next time up at bat was a home run for Bauer. He grabbed the lead at th e start and slowly pulled away from the rest of the pack. Lunde held second until the fifth lap when Hoyt took over . but even so, he still took second in the final standings. Hoyt was third and Flem ing was fourth . In the 125cc Pro class it was S.O.P.'s Andy Northrup (Suz) who took an overdue victory. He storm ed the first round while Scott McGary (Yam) , who came all the way from Tinley Park , IL , took second second ahead of Hayword Flynt (Suz) and Troy Smith t; •• l • ,. .
