CONGRATULATIONS TO BRIAN MYERSCOUGH 125cc HANGTOWN WINNER -... l-o c, « Even hotshots have a bad day. Donnie Cantaloupi didn't fare as well as usual at Marysville. Turner seemed to be low on power he dropped back a couple of places and after a few laps he pulled out with a seized engine . It seems the new piston and rings he had installed the night before needed a littl e more running time on them . Meanwhile, Cantaloupi and Waxham were putting a little distance on Odekirk. As the track drops off the levee in the southeast part of the course and makes a left hander , Odekirk did a 360 enteri ng, the turn . letting Todd DeVaugn and Ferraro -get by. Cantaloupi held off Waxham for the win and Ferra ro got b y Devaugn for th ird . Dave Cou pe . who is really getting fast agai n after breaking his leg on th is same tra ck . fin ished fifth. Cantaloupi was out in front for th e second rnoto, too . But a whoop threw his ba ck end straight up and . after attempting to ride it on th e fro nt wheel. he went over th e bars . Donni e and th e bike d id three somersau lts and rolled to th e edge of the tr ack . Freddy Bercier too k over th e lea d ah ead of W ax ham a n d De Vau gn while Cantaloupi go t up in las t pla ce a nd sta rted flyin g . He di d n't fin d out until the next d ay. but the fall broke his frame where the sho ck mounts. Waxham aced Bercier for firs t and DeVaugn soon go t by too . Can ral oupi was up to eighth . Cou pe was reall y o n th e gas th is moto and moved up to second with Ferra ro behind. Wax ham had a huge lead o n Coupe bu t Cantaloupi was up around Ferraro and into third after only a co u ple of laps. Waxham held on to the finish but Cantaloupi was able to get by Coupe and close a littl e before the end. Waxham got the overall and Cantaloupi got second with a tie score. Coupe was third for fourth overall and Ferraro fourth for third overall. Dean W iggens ho leshot the first 250cc moto with Losh, ' Lou pi' and Lesnewski moving up fas t. Randy Losh , of Euro-Cycles , moved up and put the pressure on Wiggens for a couple of laps. He then passed and let Cantaloupi take over to work on him . J im Lesnewski was in fo urth and Danny T urner , riding a KTM for Hi Point , was in ninth and moving up fast. Cantaloupi and Wiggens started _ d ieing but when Cantaloupi lost his chain it was then Lesnewski coming up to battle for second. Lesnewski was on the gas and made it by. but time ran ou t. Losh won , followed by Lesn ewski and ' Wiggens . Turner was getting d ialed in to riding the new KTM and moved up to finish fourth. Mik e Marquez and Brian Jodry were fifth and sixth. Lesn iewski holeshot the second moto and won; Losh finished second th is time . T u rn er felt more used to th e powerband of the KTM th is moto and fini shed third . He should be a definite threat in th e 250cc class from now on (thanks to Hi-Point). W iggens started in fourth ahead of Cantaloupi but by the end of th e moto he had dropped to ninth . Canraloupi followed Turner a cross th e fin ish for fourth in front ofJodry and Marquez. Lesni ewski got the overall with Losh , Turner, Jodry, a nd Marquez second th rough fifth respectively. Alan Berluti won th e first Open m oto after L esni ewsk i , Losh a n d Wi ggens were involved in a big pile up . However . Berluti was d isquali fied for pit riding (stric t ly enfo rced at a ll Ma rysville races) and was unable to compete in moto two of the 250 cc ra ce. Dave Wood. spon sored by Jim & J im 's in Da vis and All Proof. was seco nd after lea d ing almost th e en tire ra ce . Berluti zapped him on the last lap . Rick Woods on . Richa rd Bu tt er and Bill Swartz foll owed. In moto two Wi ggens . was out in front of Lesniewski . Wood son a n d Losh . .. Losh sta rted passing to get to th e front and after a coup le of laps he was beh ind Lesni ewski . T hey both got around Wiggens and Losh took over the lead. but Lesni ewski was going to make him earn a win and th e two battled for th e rest of th e moto . Losh wa s . the eve n t u a l winner with Lesniewski inches behind . Wiggens . Swartz and Wood were next. Wood took th e overall with Swartz and Losh second and third . . Dick Mann . on a four- stroke Suzuki, won the Old Timers race .a fter falling in the tricky fro nt wheel magnet that was giving everyone probl ems. Veteran Expert Charlie Sexton got by . but not for long. Dick took th e second for the overall. Kay Corpe , a friend of Dick Mann. was racing Veteran Novi ce on her four -stroke Honda . She did an impressive job of wrest ling th e b ig thumper and it will be int e rest ing to watch her progress to Expert to give C ha r lie Sexton and Rengie Mull a little competition . • In the first 125cc National of the year, w orks rider Brian Myerscough took his Suzuki to the winner's circle.
