ENOR11IERN DATELINE ~ E Winter series finale at S.I.R. By Sue Sykes KENT, WA , MAR. 11 Three hundred twenty-eight rid ers turned out for one last whirl in the Winter Series of Motocross at S.I. R . The 250cc Pro riders jammed together at the start with Pat jacobson (Bellevue Suzu ki) taking home the lion's share of the money. Bill joyce (Suz) claimed the rnoto two win to pull into second overall and Olympic Yamaha's T om Poage took third. Over the Hill and O ld Timers event was the Race of Champions . On this busy d ay the guys a ll had to gate together o n a starti ng lin e of over lapping handlebars. The O ver the Hill Gang - Experts, juniors and Ol d Timers put on a great ride. University Ho nda-mounted Gordy Ochs was the wonder man of the event with back to back wins . He then had to get it together and go mix with the 250cc Pros for more fun. T urner finished fourth in front of Rebuck and Dave Coupe, Preston was in front of Hollis and Turner in the second mota , Waxham was mid-pack but determined to catch the leaders. He was up behind Turner by the second lap. Dana worked to get by Turner and then set his sights on the Michigan motocrosser. In no time he was on the gas and got by both Hollis and Preston. Coupe had moved into fourth behind Hollis . Turner was fifth. Hollis moved into second and soon took over first when Waxham's chain fell off. Coupe was really flying and moved into second for a dice with Hollis. Coupe aced Hollis for the win bu t Hollis took t he overall with his two second place finishes. Cou pe was second overall by co mbining a fifth in the first moto with his win in the second. Presto n was third overall with 3-3 and Turner fourth with 4-4 . Turner and j im Lesniewski led out the first 250cc moto , Randy Losh was mid -pack . Lesniewski too k the lea d . immediately with T u rner righ t behind him . On lap three Turner bit out but got right back up and started gaining back his lost time on Lesniewski. Turner pulled his Hi-Point sponsored KTM in close to Lesn iewski's Ma ico but time ran out and it was Lesiewski followed by Turner, joey Schlad , Dean Wiggens and Randy Lash. • .. ... • ... ... Lesn iewski was a bo ut fourth into the first turn but sta lled his motor and ended up m id -pack. Trying to make up lost time , he b it th e sa nd in the back section a nd wre nched his neck too bad to continue t he moto or . to even race in his second Open mot a . Wiggens and Lash were diein g but Losh got by and st art ed working on Scheller. Lash got by Sch ell er as did Wiggens and at th e fin ish lin e it was Losh, Wiggins. Schelle r and Waller. Losh took th e overa ll with Wi ggens second , joey Schlad th ird and W aller fourth. Lesniewski holeshot th e first Open moro and Bob Myers. Parry Klassen and Eric McKenna followed . Meyers got by Lesniewski by th e end of th e moto for the win ; Lesniewski , Klassen and McKenna follow ed . Lash won th e seco nd moto but a first mow DNF kept him out of the mon ey positions. Meyers got th e overa ll win a fter a third behind McKenna. who got second overall. and Klassen who was fourth for third overall . Loren Turn er. Danny 's lilt le brother. holeshot and won bot h IOOcc junior rnotos for th e overa ll in that class. Marcy Lewis won th e first Powd er Puff race and took second in th e next one for first overall. CA , MAR . 18 AME scored another hit with the Over The Hill Gang when more than 50 of the over-age 30 MX'ers signed in to compete on a super track . Sunday morning's early two hour rainfall. which stopped pri or to practice. left the track a rnudder's delight. Maniac Mike led the mad da sh to the first turn and got the holes hot barely ahead of Corroded Carlos and j umbo jim . T he slick stu ff claimed Get -Off Gary and Piner Pat at t he treacherous first turn but they got back int o th e ra ce with onl y a few seconds lost , Mania c Mike held onto his lead and went o n to win th e first moto , By th e second mota the tra ck had dried somewhat and it wasn 't as mucky as the first go-around. jum bo jim took it wire-to-wire for the mota win , but first place brass went. to Fragrant Frank who chased the leaders in both . motes, scoring a consistent 2-2 for the overall win. Maniac Mike was awarded second place with his 1-3 tally and Dumpp Dale brought up third with a score of 3-5. Amateurs followed the Experts out of the gate and shared the track with them. Bu ffa lo Bill and Come- onChuck got away quickest and even mingled with the upper class Experts in the first rnoto . The slippery stuff pulled down Amos Andy in the first lap; Slim y Steve in the second lap; Flaky Frank in the third lap; Dr iller Dale, Philt hy Phil and Dip py Del in the fifth lap; but all were a ble to re start and finis h the moto (exce pt Slimy Steve who buried his bike in tu rn five). Buffalo Bill took the overall win wit h a tota l of 2-2. Come-on -Chuck's 1-4 earned him the second place spot with thi rd going to Driller Da le (6-1). T here were no mud victims in the second moto. The sixth event brought out the usual large class of Intermediates. Driver Dave charged to the head of the pack at turn one and held his lead to the finish . Ratchet Richard worked his way through the field to finish second. However, in moto two it was Varmit Vic who took the holeshot on his hot red Honda and led the pack for four laps with Ratchet Richard and Diver Dave in hot pursuit. The two zipped past Vic when he bobbled going through a mud-rut. Diver Dave took the overall win with his first place finishes. Ratchet Richard was 2-2 for second and third was filled by Kwik Keith who seems to be in the top finishing spots since he got dependable wheels. The Novices followed the Intermediates out of the start gate by about eight seconds. Wailing Wally and Goofy Gary wer e the even-odds fa vorites to win : juding from past performances. Gary won the first mota. Wally the second moto , which gav e him first ove ra ll. Goofy Gary scored 1-2 for second place and Downer Darryl brought up third with his 4-4 finish es. Results EX: 1. Waxham, Lesnewski and Wood win at Marysville By Greg " N uclear" Neukam MARYSVILLE, CA , MAR_ ll - There was a large turnout of riders for the Saturday Marysville races and fantastic spring weather to bask in. Charlie Sexton had a nice, long challenging track laid out. Experts were turning sub -three minute lap times but a lot of them were out smarted by the track and bit the di rt . Moto -X Fox sponsored Donnie Ca ntaloupi shot ou t in front of To'm Odekirk in the first I 25cc mota as Dana Wa xham moved into third ; Kawasaki mounted Anny Turner was in mid-pack with Dirt Werke's Donnie Ferraro a couple of places behind. Wax ham moved into second as Cantaloupi picked up the pace a ~itt!e:
