Danny Perkins didn't look like mu ch in th e Open Money hal f mile heat race but he came alive when it cou nted . He pushed his big Yam aha righ t to th e fr on t and kept it th ere. Bobby Sanders was off second with Rick Reed third and Ste ve Monger fourth . Reed ran into trouble early on and was back in seventh on the second lap and Rob . Selvy moved to fill th e gap with Dylan Ne ihart right behind him . Two laps later Selvy lost his spot to Neihart , who was looking for racing room . One lap later Neihart got a lucky break as Monger went out with m echanical problems and third was his. Perkins was burning up the track and Sanders went on th e defensive to hold Neihart at bay. They finished in that order. There was a special treat for those of us that can remember' way back when with the appearance of James Reed , and his 600cc Matchless. H e finished. third in the Open Expert half m ile behind Dylan Neihart and Steve Monger. Double wins were collect ed b y Roger Thompson in the Mini Division , Darren Hulbert in th e I25cc Experts and Mike Roa c h in t he 250cc Amateurs. • s IdenState • Series. This week was no exception , as some of th e to p Pros sho wed up to d o battle with th e Am erican Motocross Enterprises a t India n Dunes. In th e I25cc Pro cIass it was "Flying Mike" Brown (Suz) taking th e hol eshot and the lead as th e gate d ropped for the first rou nd . There was no holding back Yamaha -m ounted T im Locey, who passed Brown to ta ke th e lead. Suzuki-mounted Bobby J on es al so got by Brown , putting pressure on Locey. Locey was abl e to hold on to first with Jon es fin ishing seco nd and t h ird goi ng to Brown . In the seco nd ro und Bro wn jumped into th e lead follo wed by Locey and Jo nes .
