'. In the nex t race, Bauer got out into an early lead, but Miller was right on his tail. Both riders were out for blood, and the duel got hairy at times . At one point, Mille r block passed Bauer and led for a lap , but then Bauer turned around and did the sam e thing right back. Miller's tire went flat about halfway through the race, bu t he hardly slacked off his pace. But finally , after a hard race, Bauer took the win with Miller right behind. Gray was a distant third. Overall it was Miller; Bauer, Gray, Reynolds and "night. The season of high schoo l MX came to a partial climax on the same night in the first of two championship races, the second of which will be held next week . Taking top honors was Norco H igh with North less than 30 points behind . It was Mike Word's win in the 175cc Senior class that put Norco over the edge, and as if that wasn 't enough , Word went on to tak e third in th e 125cc Senior class. Results MINI ,/Iincon IKaw }; 2. John br ought it to our attention this even ing that not since 1973 has anyone ever won all th ree Pro classes in CMC motocross . Well , tonight all three Pro classes were put away by Luft Shocks' great Ron Turner! How anyone could race three Pro classes is quite a feat in itself but to win against the best is remarkable. Turner had to overcome the threat of Glenn Page and Troy Smith In the 125cc Pro class and the competition in the 250 and 500cc classes was even stiffer as Norstar-supported Goat Breker (Hus) and Gary Jones (Amx) played tag with Turner all the way but d id not prevail against the ligh tening Luft rider. Both Breker and Jones raced in both events so they had a fair chance at Turner but ended up lett ing him take all the first place cash and a real night to remember. Results MINI JR ; 1. Jim Gibson brought his Suzukis out to Saddleback today and cleaned house on both the 250 and 125cc Pros. After riding four 40·minute motos in less than five hours on an unusually rough cou rse, for Saddleba ck , Gibson ha rdly seemed winded! Watch this guy ' to make a good showing at th e 125cc National Apr.1 . . Grabbing the first moto holeshot over a large field of 250cc Pros was Yamaha -mounted Tim Lunde. .Close behind came Suzuki's Bob Elliott with Yamaha rider Mark Lawrence in third just ahead of Gibson. On the second lap Gibson passed Lawrence and on the third went by Elliott. Lap five saw Tony Gomez move his Suzuki up to take fourth place away from Lawrence. Out in front , Lunde seemed j o : have everything under control riding at a smooth, fast pace. Gibson appeared to be riding more conservatively than usual, perhaps with the thought of three races yet to come and Elliott cruised comfortably in third . When the checkered flag . came out the finishing order was still the same, Lunde, Gibson , Elliott. Tony Gomez was unsatisfied with his fourth place in the first moto so he grabbed the holeshot in the second. Gibson quickly attached himself to Gomez's rear fender and Lunde follow ed in third . Greg Blackwell put his bright orange Can-Am into fourth ahead of Elliott and Ve re Butler (Yam). Gomez tried to hold off Gibson but the Suzuki rider was not to be ·d enied victory . As soon as Gibson passed Gomez he began to pull away from the field at two seconds a lap. Gomez was running nicel y in second until he threw his chain and Lunde moved up. Blackwell held off Elliott until about th e halfway point.
