T h ir d place money went to Maico riderJohn Atwood with a 7·5 score. Gibson didn't waste any time jumping to the front of the I25cc Pro race. Craig Dale gave chase on his Suzuki and managed to keep Gibson in sight but could not get close enough to threaten . At the checkers Gibson and Dale were far out in front of the rest of the field . Moto two was basically a replay of the first as Gibsonran away with the race a nd Da le finished in second, the only rider even close to Gibson. D. Westergaard finished the day with a third overa ll on his Suzuki. Suzu ki rider Tim Tolar grabbed the lea d as the O pen Pros headed fo r the first turn followed by Maico-mounted, Chuck Pettigrew and desert ace Larry . Roeseler on (what else?) a H us ky . Tolar looked to have the race in the bag until mechanical problems caused him to DNF. Pettigrew won and Roeseler finished second with Husky rider Bob Ru tten in third. Roeseler nailed down the holeshot in the second moto with Pettigrew hot on his tail. The two riders banged bars the entire race with Roeseler leading right until the last lap as Pettigrew slipped by to take th e win and overall victory . R oeseler took home the consolation money and Maico rider Joe Puce finished with a 4-4 score to give him third overall.
