CA , FE B:II It took six rounds of action,' but Danny "Magoo" Chandler finally put together a double-class victory in the · CMC/Suzuki Golden State Series taking the 250 and 500cc classes at Dunlap Cycle Park. W ith that pair of wins, Magoo locked u p the 250cc title for t he 1979 series, and also moved up a bit mo re in his . bid for the 500cc crown. Team Yamaha's Broc Clover totally threw a roost on the 125cc pack both rnotos, with second going to Suzuki's youngster, Brian Myerscough , and third 10 Moto -X Fox's Donnie Cantaloupi, The latter pair are now tied for the number one 125cc class title, and the last round at Huron Cycle Park will tell the story. Orig;n;lly., this round of the series had been scheduled for Clovis Lakes, but a disagreement with land permits forced the move back 10 Dunlap , which had hosted the second round. This time the track was run different · ly. a few sections were taken out , and instead of mud there was a little excess dust due 10 a broken water truck . A rather small turnout of 500cc Pros required no qua lifiers and wer e first out of the gate 10 start the main events. Neal Snarr grabbed the holeshot on his Suzuki, but Chandler was right behind as the pack headed for the first turn . Magoo found a hotter line and took the lead, and by the time the pack came around for the completio n of lap one , Chandler had already pulled out a 15·second lea d . The northern California kid was hot, and Su nday was his day . Nobody even came close to catching him the rest of the mo to. While Chandler was flying out front . Snarr was busv kee in company with Bob Ellio tt, Eri c McKenna, Ra ndy Losh and Coa t Br eker. Elliott and Mc Ken na' ra n into problems and soon dropped back , bu t Breker hung in there to pick up the second spot that McKenna left behind . Losh also stuck around and ca me in third ahead of Snarr, R an d y Rodriguez and Elliott. Moto two was a litt le mo re interesting as Husqvarna-rnounted Breker . came into the first turn right on Chandler and pressured hard. Magoo would pull away slightly, but Breker found ways to make up the difference. After numerous challenges for the lead, Goat almost lost it at the bottom of the start hill and backed off for a moment . This was all Chandler needed tlo pull away for good 10 take the rnoto win and the overall ahead of Breker. Third 'went to Mc Kenna, who experienced a mete-long battle with teammate Losh, and Jerome Heiburge r ro unded out the top five. In the two 125cc mains. the onlv name 10 think about was Broc Clove':; The start of the first moto saw Clover take the hol eshot followed by DC 's Randy Hess . Brian Myerscough and Donnie Cantaloupi . By th e end of th e first . lap both Myerscough and Ca ntaloupi ha d slipped past Hess. b ut Clover seemed unreachable . Myer" scougrr tried to pressure the National champ , but it was to no avail. Bro e p ro ceed ed 10 lap everyone up to seventh place by the end of the moto, Myerscough a nd Canta loupi held their positions. a lthough botll riders were a 10nRway back.
