As the seven race to u rney begins to grind down . the points tally becomes the main topic of conversation among the top spo rt sm a n riders who are seeking a class championship . Su zuk i Motor Company will be awarding schola rships to their famous Suzuki Motocross School, loc a ted at Carlsb ad Raceway, to the top two po int holders in each class. In addition to the scholarships, the overa ll high point rider will receive a '79 250cc Su zuki R M. . Ka wasaki rider Richa rd Sands. of W est Covina , is currently lead ing t he CMC points race in the Mini Expert division . Sands has dominated nearly every race he has entered and today was no exception as he picked up another win and an additional 20 points. Yamaha support rider T yson Vohland of Sacramento put together a goo d ride , combining a third a nd seco nd to fin ish in the runner-up spot beh ind the g ree n m a chine of Sa nds. In the 80c c J u nior Mini -mot e , Vin ce P irl o pulled a n ups et victo ry o ver points leader a nd newl y sig ned T eam Fo x rider , J o hn Blood of Hacienda Heights. Dav id Berl in ga ine d points o n series points leader Pat Galon with his win in the 80cc Intermediate d ivision. Tiny Chris Neal of Los An geles showed his stuff to win the m ini segment of 50cc J u nio rs. 125cc I nt erm ed ia te Kevin Hopkins out of Canyon Country has really showed everyone that he 's for real as the series points leader added another notch to his belt with today's victory . Hopkins (Suz) played u pon the mi sfortunes of others as he put together a sco re of 5-3 to snatch th e win fro m the " H ollywood Kid ," Zapata Espanoza . The C .B.S . rider styled to the max b ut his second moto finish reiega ted hi m to second. Division one sco res showed Kevin Hopkins 5·3 , Zap Espanoza 2-6 and Bryon Helbron 8·4 . SoCal speedster Steve Pfa ff (Suz) pulled a power playas he motored to victory in both Division two races of 125cc Intermediates. The win p ut th e Garden G ro ve res ident into a tig ht points race with Kevin H opkins and Mik e Holmes a nd th e rem aining two ro unds shou ld see some battlefield tactics in thi s aggressive class. Kenny McK en e pu rsu ed Pfaff throughout both of th e d ay's m otos, The 125c c Division two m oto ta lly sho wed Pfaff ( 1· 1) McK enne (2 -2) a nd Bill Carlson (5 ·3). Jeff Burnsworth , aboard his very trick R & D prepped machine , scored his first 125cc Junior win of this CMC series a fte r n arrowly besting the proven Greg Apostalou (Suz). Apostalou and Bu rns worth exchanged moto wins with Bu rnsworth receiving the low score . Mark Du val out of Los Gatos kept the two leaders honest as the Suzuki rider was very steady with his 3·3 finish . Danny Dobpas (Suz) copped the gold in Division two of 125cc ( I - I) while the Sacramento stroker fin ished behind NorCal's Do b pas in ea ch rally. Divisio n three action was a Cooper Wallace benefit as the Husky rider again went home with 20 series points. Scott Manning, J eff Burnsworth and Cooper W allace will definitely be charging for gold next weekend . Citrus Heights' Shelly Coffey showed the L.A . babes that NorCal women are indeed flying as the 125cc Suzuki ri der beat out Lynette W osick. Wosick , who has the winning att itude of her older brother La rry , beat Coffey in rno to one with Debbie Jamerso n ri ding her Suzuki to a third place finish in the first go-around, Moto two was all Coffey wit h the stylish Jamerson nipping the very young Wosick fo r second . Women class scores consisted of Shelly Coffey (2· 1), Lynette Wosick (1-3) and DebbieJamerson (3 ·2).
